Yup! It's official! There is no doubt about it.
Yesterday, I overworked myself, quite a bit. Of course, I am able to say it was all due to the rush of excitement. I was BEYOND giddy, as I left my therapy appointment. And, as we pulled into the parking lot, of the medical supply store, I was beaming. I had a ridiculous smile on my face, that just ( Read more... )

Have you considered asking your aunt to pay for the yarn? It's one thing when you want to make a gift for someone. It's entirely a different thing when someone commissions you to make something for her.

Or you might ask her to pay a set price for the shawl, equivalent to 3 times the amount of the cost the yarn.

A leopard doesn't change its spots. And isn't it interesting that she has decided to be nice to you at the same time as she wants something from you.

I agree that if someone asks you to make them something, it's a commission and they should at least pay for the yarn. They could also choose the colour and leave the rest up to you. Maybe even suggest she go to the yarn store with you to choose and buy the yarn? Then you can pick a pattern you like. :-)

When I accept a commission I take 3 times the amount of the yarn I plan to use and ask for 50% up front before I even start. That covers my yarn costs and gives me something for my pocket. Don't be afraid to ask for this. Your time and expertise are worth more than that ( ... )

The thing is this. I wish I considered myself good enough to ask for a profit. But, I don't. Plus I love working with yarn so much, it seems wrong to me, is some strange way, that even I cannot fully explain or understand, to ask for money.

If people are asking you to make something for them, then yeah, your work is good enough to charge for it.
