stuck in the middle where money gets tight

As in, I copy edited for The Pitt News but didn't make copy chief.  I got a writing internship but it was crappy, not prestigious and I didn't get any clips from it.  I wrote for TPN but didn't make section editor, because I quit when maybe I shouldn't have, and took a year off when I could have been writing.  I won a fellowship but not a ( Read more... )

When you are dissatisfied with mediocrity use all the resources at your disposal to elevate yourself above it. There is no other option.

Have the character flaw of wanting to do everything NOW is a big one. And it causes unnecessary stress (I should know, I'm the exact same).

I truly hope you aren't going to be mediocre all your life. I don't want to give unwanted sympathy, but I'm sure you will eventually get to where you need to go. Sadly it is sometimes the things we SHOULD have done that give us the most regret ... and yet there is nothing we can change about it. But if you're willing to hang in there, I'm sure you'll get where you want eventually.

Though I hope your 'eventually' is rather soon. :)

Well I suppose I should amend "mediocre" to mean "mediocre by my standards." Because really, most of my fellow writing major graduates don't have writing-related jobs at all... I just have a rather narcissistic drive to be great, haha. =)

Haha, well having that drive is what makes you more awesome. :)

Don't worry about it, I'm exactly the same. At least you have a job in writing, so you can brag about that at least! :)
