hanging tough, staying hungry

[Open to everyone]

[For once the road is clear ahead and Dean revvs up the engine, lets the Impala rip down the asphalt. His music is cranked up and he's singing along, obnoxious and out of key, flicking his gaze to the rearview and back to the road ( Read more... )

[Well that's okay Sammy! Dean's just going to sing louder and glance at you every so often]

[ Despite the short trip to their next job, Sam had decided to try to take a small nap or at least try anyways. The wind buffered his ears as Dean was speeding like usual. It did however, help him tune out the singing to a point--it could only do so much. Every time he closed his eyes lately, something had gone flashing by. He might not be able to see what they were, but the screaming he could hear wasn't helpful in helping him see what it was either. When his consciousness bubbled up to the surface again, it was either the Impala's engine he could hear or the notes in the back seat. Which were weighed down somewhat by his laptop case, should any go flying all they would have to do is print them off since he'd saved them to his hard drive just in case ( ... )

[Dean's constantly on the alert, making sure Sam's asleep, resting up when he should. He can sense something off about his brother and it worries him, makes him constantly on edge. And yet? He couldn't be happier, Sam's beside him, that's all he can ask for. Instead of replying, of voicing his concern, Dean just gives him a grin, wide and cheeky as he turns his eyes back to the road]

Yeah well, m'coastin' ain't I Sam? Gotta use this sugar for good.

[ An eyebrow raises in response to that grin. Dean being in this good of a mood hasn't happened since they had the case involving strippers. Or at least that was the last time it seemed apparent that he was happier than normal. A side glance or two, he could see that even Dean's face was a bit relaxed as well. There was a dry laugh as he shook his head. ]

For good? Dude, like you need a sugar high. Bouncing off the walls won't exactly let you focus.

[ Raking a hand through his hair did nothing than tousle it more. He could feel the weariness pecking at the back of his head, but sleep wasn't easy for them. It never was unless they had exhausted themselves most of the time, which wasn't the case right now. Glancing around the car, he expected to see a wrapper or something from the sandwiches they had picked up before they left the last town, but to his surprise he didn't see any. ]

Have you eaten anything to balance out your blood sugar?

[Dean looks like he's thinking, trying to remember if he's eaten anything at all today. Anything other than the soda he's just drank or the coffee he consumed before they headed off] Dude, I'll get something in the next town.

"Pick up your phone, asshole", Kate hissed into the speaker of her cell, before letting it go to voicemail and shoving it back into her pocket. She tapped impatiently on the steering wheel of the van. There was some serious bad juju going down in Illinois, and she'd told the boss she wanted first dibs on the case.

Not because she loved the idea of facing what she was pretty sure what this thing was without backup, but because she had no intention of bringing it home alive. She loved her team, she did, and most of the time their fluffy views when it came to critters was alright. But some things just needed old fashioned killing and she didn't want witnesses.

But once again, she wasn't loving the thought of taking it on single handed, which was why it was worth a shot to send a ring to one Dean Winchester to see if he was in the area.

It takes Dean precisely fifteen minutes to hear the steady beep in his pocket that implies he's got a missed call, another five until he's calling her back, phone wedged between his ear and his shoulder.

Kate's phone vibrated in her pocket, and she dug it out with her free hand, glaring a little at the name on the screen,

"Do you have a thing against replying to voicemails? Or is that special treatment just for me?"

"On the road, sweetheart," comes Dean's dry, crackling retort. The signal's bad but underneath it the roar of the Impala can be heard, two lane asphalt underneath her wheels, "What can I do you for?"
