I remember reading the review for Muse's "Absolution" and the comparison of Bellamy to Yorke. I can see where they're coming from vocally, though I admit that Bellamy's vocals are a lot less whiny and fucking annoying than Thom Yorke's on the last few Radiohead albums, which I find boring, largely inaccessible, and/or pretentious with some exceptions for certain tracks. Some of Muse's guitar work sounds similar to old Radiohead and I once thought to myself that "Absolution" could very well have been a logical next step from Radiohead's "Pablo Honey," if that makes any sense. I can't say that I like Muse very much. I enjoyed "Absolution" for a few weeks, but after that it just got old and ordinary.

hm... I haven't listened to Pablo Honey, so I can't say. I enjoy Radiohead, although post-Kid A hasn't been very good. I could do away with Thom's vocals though.

Tread lightly when you bash Radiohead Mike Brown or I will be forced to come to Erie and hunt you down like a dog ;).
You want a point of comparison? How about the fact that they've hired the guy who produced The Bends (John Leckie) to produce their albums. "Unintended" could easily be a guitar era Radiohead b-side. Yes in their later years they've turned to creating pompous stadium rock as opposed to ripping off the Bends while Radiohead chose to reinvent themmselves in a more um, shall we say interesting way. (Post Kid-A stuff isn't very good???? I have given up all hope on trying to educate Americans on Electronic music.)

Gnarls Barkley? I think Danger Mouse is highly overrated, That's three albums in a row now that he's failed to live to my expectations (Grey Album, DangerDoom and St. Elsewhere) It's a nice CD, he is a talented producer, but in two years this album is going to be remembered for having the first download only single to make it to no.1 in the UK and little else.

okay, okay, I have to be honest in that I'm not a Muse scholar or anything (the song didn't immediately come to mind, for example). I listened to "Unintended" and, wow, you're right. I have Showbiz kicking around but I haven't listened to it until now, and it does sound a lot like Radiohead. Honestly, I think Radiohead rocks. Kid A and OK Computer are awesome albums, and I adore The Bends. Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief have some cool stuff on it but they haven't clicked with me quite yet.

Gnarls is the only Dangermouse stuff I've listened to intensely, I have Dangerdoom and the second Gorillaz album but I haven't listened to them yet.

Sefi, give me some electronica to check out. I've been trying to get into some but I've no friends who are really into it (they have some trance MP3s and go on about how awesome the techno is. I at least know Trance isn't quite techno)... so I'm intrigued, now.
