So. A bunch of you have found out that you're fictional characters, right? Or at least, fictional characters in some universe.

Isn't that... weird? Don't you hit a kind of existential crisis mode?

I don't know what I'd do if I found out I was fictional in a universe. That just seems so bogus.

I don't think I've ever heard you say 'bogus' before.

What's an existential crisis mode? is it a kind of wall? Is it fun to hit?

...you know, I guess you could call it a kind of wall. But it's probably not that fun to hit.

In this case, it means you're doubting if you really exist.

That doesn't make any sense at all.

Do you mean, you don't remember if you exist?

What if you're not supposed to remember that you don't exist?

I'll add it to the heap!

It's worthless wasting time thinking about something that doesn't matter.

Maybe it does matter. Ever thought of that?

...you upworlders and your damn big words.

...I could use smaller ones if that suits you better.

Words like 'existential' don't mean anything to me, so... yeah. Pretend I'm stupid and use the smaller words for me.

There's a difference between stupid and not educated.

In this case, I just meant that if you find out that in some world you were the product of someone's mind, it's really fucked up. And it makes you not sure that you're totally real.

Also, not really sure 'upworlder' applies to me. You from Earth?

Why would that be so bad? Doesn't affect me at all.

And hey, if some guy somewhere thinks I'm worth writing stories about? Great! It'd be more recognition than I get back home.

That's one way to think about it.

Then again, what asshole would write a story in which you didn't get any recognition, as a character?

pliablepaladin June 18 2009, 07:58:25 UTC
One who can't keep track of his characters? But hey, not everybody can be the star of the show; you've gotta have a supporting cast too. And extras, and the intern who brings everyone else donuts.

Wait, we were using writing metaphors, weren't we?

Metaphors are fine.

...and yeah, that's true enough. But if you have a world of billions, are most of the people just supporting characters?
