So. A bunch of you have found out that you're fictional characters, right? Or at least, fictional characters in some universe.

Isn't that... weird? Don't you hit a kind of existential crisis mode?

...you upworlders and your damn big words.

...I could use smaller ones if that suits you better.

Words like 'existential' don't mean anything to me, so... yeah. Pretend I'm stupid and use the smaller words for me.

There's a difference between stupid and not educated.

In this case, I just meant that if you find out that in some world you were the product of someone's mind, it's really fucked up. And it makes you not sure that you're totally real.

Also, not really sure 'upworlder' applies to me. You from Earth?

Oh, I'm educated. Just not from books.

Feh... does it really matter if you're real or not? If you're real to yourself, that's what's important. I feel real. My life feels real. That's real enough for me.

I'm from Earth. You not from Earth?

Oh, the crappy kind, huh? That's more about life kicking the shit out of you than actually learning anything?

You can be real enough, but the problem with stories is that they have an ending, and a purpose, and if you're in one and you're pulled out halfway through - are you still sort of meant for that purpose? And I know that doesn't even really make sense.

I'm from Mars. Human, a few centuries after colonization.

Life tried. I kicked back. I made it bleed.

I had a purpose. I was supposed to take revenge for my people. Then, I got a new purpose. So how about that? Is your 'written' purpose allowed to change without warning?

Mars, huh? They have mutants in your time?

Well, good for you. And no one says a story can't have chapters. Or volumes.

If by 'mutants' you mean 'malformed fetuses that die because of interstellar radiation-related mutations', then yes, but they've got a lot of stabilizing treatments for those these days. And most every ship has to be shielded.

...

No, I mean... what's the spit that Xavier's kids say? 'Humans born with abilities that set them apart from normal humans.' People who can read minds, have super-senses, make fire from their hands... y'know, mutants.

Then no. Never, in the history of the world I'm from, unless they kept it very much to themselves.

Hm.

Ah well. Guess not every world gets so graced.

Making fire from your hands sounds scientifically improbable, to me.

My leader can control the weather. PrettyKitty can walk through walls. I can pull extra bones outta me and use 'em to stab and cut.

Not uncommon where I'm from. It's all genetics. Homo superior.

...that's a pretty dumb name, I'm not gonna lie, but then, scientific Latin is mostly bullshit anyway.
