It wasn't long before Ezra appeared and made his way over to the principal, wearing a warm looking hoodie and smelling faintly of smoke. He'd been tugging Lester along, but released his hold on the brunet's sleeve when they stepped out into the brisk air.

"Evening," he said simply before coming to a stop and glancing over his shoulder at Lester, as if to make sure he was following. Honestly, he wasn't looking forward to dealing with the man's usual attitude, especially with everything he'd learned recently. He hadn't told anyone about what Oscar had sent Lawrence out to do, preferring to leave it to the blond's discretion, but just because he didn't want to worry the group needlessly yet didn't mean he wasn't going to keep his hackles up around the nosy old man. Ezra finally looked over at him, the shadow from his pulled up hood hiding his eyes a bit, before nodding at the box in his grasp.

"Should we bother asking what's in the box or is it a surprise?"

Heather's arrival was something Lawrence pushed out of his mind completely. The look on his face could only be described as one of absolute fury. That... that unbelievable bastard. He was just playing with him again, wasn't he? No, Lawrence could sense something more...

Something like he was stalling for time.

That's just fine. Lawrence thought. If I can't get any straight answers out of him, I can at least create enough doubt so as to stop others from trusting him blindly like I did...

He scoffed. "If I recall correctly, you mentioned that the study group was up to 'no good' and that I should keep my eye on them. I did exactly that, and through much investigation I came to discover that they weren't the ones that were up to no good. The person who was, however, was you. Oh, I'm sure you were quite concerned, weren't you? Like how you were concerned when you sent the rest of them on a trip to the museum? Ah, yes... how did that end again? I wonder..." he asked, with a patronizing tone.

Lillian nodded to Heather, smiling back warmly. Once she'd completed her calls, she slipped her phone back into her purse to wait until either the principal sent them on their way or others started showing up.

She still didn't look the least bit bothered by Lawrence's speech. If anything, she looked perfectly content to just let him keep talking.

"If this group is unaware that I don't fully trust their activities, then they've obviously ignored my repeated warnings as I've feared they have been. It's good to know that you think they're doing alright, though." He shrugged his shoulders, again passing off Lawrence's accusations as something completely ridiculous and humorously uncalled to him. "Maybe next time instead of wildly tying together bad coincidences, you should pay attention to how well all of you seem to attract trouble, and, of course, how well all of you seem to attract people like yourselves. I'd say you're in danger of turning me into your red herring, aren't you ( ... )

Lawrence was speechless. What had just happened? His mouth hung open in awe as he stared at the box Oscar held out to Heather.

Had he accomplished anything at all? No... it didn't seem like it. He thought that confronting Principal Ivors would make him feel a little better about how everything turned out since he assumed he would be getting answers... but all he got was blatant skirting and beating around the bush.

He sighed. What a waste of time. He looked at Ezra with a frustrated and disappointed expression, then quickly turned to Lilly with the same expression on his face.

Maybe it was time for him to let this go. It didn't seem to be going anywhere. With another reluctant sigh, he nodded. "We will be sure to get it to its destination..." he muttered, without emotion or the slightest bit of interest.

Ezra wasn't quite sure what to make of Oscar's response either. Sure, Oscar wasn't the villain here but he wasn't helping things, either. And what did "people like yourselves" mean? It all rubbed him the wrong way. Still, if Oscar was determined not to give it much more thought, Ezra didn't want to spend much more of the evening wondering what he'd meant. He wasn't going to drop his grudge against the principal, but right now Lawrence's frustrated look in his direction was more interesting. Ezra'd caught the frustration in it and felt it mirrored in his own deep frown, but was already thinking back to the other times Lawrence had looked in his direction with unreadable, downright odd expressions. Stared, even. What exactly was he expecting? Everything about the blond confused him ( ... )

Lawrence noticed Ezra walk towards him and stand at his side and glanced at him with a confused expression. He furrowed his brow as if thinking of something to say, but simply settled with staring awkwardly.

After a few seconds though, he could no longer simply stare awkwardly at the other boy. "What are you doing, Ezra." He muttered quietly so that only he and Ezra could hear.

Ezra pretended not to notice the staring, at least not until Lawrence spoke. He was ready to talk again? Ezra supposed he was... he no longer seemed overwhelmed over the incident from earlier and there wasn't that warning, strained quality in his voice like before.

"We're leaving aren't we?" he returned in a similarly low tone. "But, uh. You keep looking over, and I keep thinking you wanna talk? So what is it?" Fully prepared to have been told he was reading the blond's alien body language the wrong way, he finally turned his gaze towards Lawrence with an inquiring expression.

Lawrence stared at Ezra with the same confused expression. Had he not realized the way he looked at him just now?

He had thought he was just staring absently in thought, but was he actually looking at Ezra? Did some part of him secretly hope that Ezra might jump in and help him with the confrontation?

No... that was silly. Why would he hope that? Lawrence thought for a moment.

Had... I really hoped that...? But why would... he asked himself.

"It... ah..." he stammered. He wanted to say it was nothing, but just the thought of it made him cringe.

Because that was a lie. And Lawrence couldn't lie.

He began timidly.

"Did... you understand any of what Principal Ivors said...?" he asked, in a mutter.

Oblivious to the thoughts running through Lawrence's mind, Ezra continued to gaze at him patiently, even when he stammered at first. After hearing the question, though, Ezra glanced over at Oscar and bit back an amused smile. They were awfully close to be having this conversation, and the principal had keen ears. Still, he didn't particularly care if he overheard this conversation, and being able to speak civilly with the blond would more than make up for any derision they'd receive.

"He always thinks we're inviting it," he whispered when he figured the principal wasn't looking or listening. "We did blow up school property during an attack... that was during the summer though." After a pause, he finally gave in and grinned. "So he's had more than enough time to make us pay. He's always like this. I don't think we're gonna get a clear answer."

...Blow up school property? Now, that was interesting. Lawrence's curiosity was piqued.

"You blew something up during an attack?" he asked. "What was it?"

It seemed like a mundane detail, but Lawrence was looking for anything that could give him more insight into this mystery. He also took into account Ezra mentioning that Principal Ivors always thought they invited the attacks.

...Ah...! And then it hit him! That was something Oscar had said just now! A thought began to form in his mind... one he wasn't entirely sure about. Could it be possible that something this group did in the past ended up causing demons to flood into their world?

It was something to ponder at the very least. Lawrence placed his index finger under his chin in thought.

And now Lawrence was playing detective once more, gathering information to draw his conclusions. At least he wasn't the object this time, Ezra thought with some relief. "Bathroom," he muttered back simply, keeping an eye out for the principal again. "We got chased in there... but since then he's gotten us into bad situations on more than one occasion." Ezra glanced over at Lawrence and raised an eyebrow, as if to say, 'I'll explain later'. They wouldn't be able to talk for much longer without attracting attention from either Oscar or their teammates, anyway.

Lawrence had his suspicions, and Ezra confirmed them correct. So it was them who blew up the bathroom... he glanced in Lynne's direction but quickly turned back to Ezra and nodded.

He was right. Their conversation would have to wait. They'd been muttering for too long and someone was bound to get suspicious. Not to mention, Lawrence was quite sure that Oscar had heard everything.

But he didn't care. Weighing far more on his mind was the reason why he stared at Ezra earlier. What exactly was he hoping for?

Heather wasn't sure what the whole conversation had been about when she first arrived and everyone else was talking, but she decided for the best it was probably for the best to not mix in the middle of it for now. Especially not since it was mostly Lawrence and Oscar talking, and both of them were rather.. intimidating to the shy girl ( ... )

Lester had noticed Ezra and Lawrence talking to each other. See, if they could play nice, he could play nice. His thoughts confirmed, he turned back to focus on what really had his attention at the moment. He walked up to Heather and stared at the box that was now in her hands. Good box or bad box? Shrodinger's box? Did that even make sense? He didn't know. But that was okay. At least now he knew it would be opened eventually.

Lillian suppressed a smile at the principal's hasty retreat. She'd managed to learn something new, at least, and it might even be valuable for future dealings with Mr. Ivors. She, too, noticed the slight change in atmosphere between Lawrence and Ezra; at that, she did smile ever so slightly.

"We should get going," she announced quietly, pulling her phone out of her purse to send one last text to Emi while she walked.

we're leaving. please bring 6 headsets from 401.

Then she closed her phone again and tucked it back into her purse.
