Once the study group had concluded for the evening, Lillian decided some fresh air was in order. After a brief stop by her room to drop off her things, she left again. Terri had seemed too absorbed with her novel writing to take notice of Lillian's presence at all as she came and went.
Lillian left the school and walked down the street to the park she sometimes painted at. Unsurprisingly, it was empty. Most people had already gone home for the day.
There was something about being out after dark that felt somewhat thrilling. Whether the world had changed or simply the way Lillian viewed it, it felt good to have some time to herself.
Lillian had been on her way back to the school when she caught sight of something metallic moving in the darkness. Instead of hurrying her pace back, however, Lillian found herself approaching one of the benches next to the sidewalk. She sat down calmly to wait. Perhaps she could get a better look.
Lester couldn't sleep. He supposed this wasn't too unusual. He didn't have any trouble nodding off when he needed to, but he was somewhat talented at staying up till ungodly hours every so often. And this was just one of those nights and he needed to get out of his room. He had sort of gotten out of his room earlier but. There just wasn't enough space around here sometimes.
It was late. It was dark. But that was okay. He had remembered to bring his taser in his pocket and he also had Djinn. He wasn't going to go too far. So he slipped out of the dorms and headed towards the park.
He started humming a little off sync with the song playing in his ears, but no one needed to know that except him.
Suddenly, Lillian heard humming and looked toward it. Seeing Lester amble up the sidewalk, she smiled to herself and waved at him. Though the dress she wore was a very dark shade of purple that bordered on black and blended with the darkness, her skin was still very pale and seemed to almost glow in the moonlight. With her hair loose and flowing over her shoulders, Lillian looked more like a witch or a vampiress waiting for prey to wander into her grasp than a teenage girl.
She knew better than to call out Lester's name; he probably had his earbuds in and wouldn't be able to hear her. Instead, she simply kept waving until she got his attention.
Lester nearly walked right by Lilly until he stopped and stared at the arm waving at him. Or maybe it was past him. He looked over his shoulder to see if there was anyone besides him. But unless there was some kind of invisible critter behind him, he was the only one there. Unless the other person could see the invisible critter! That was always a possibility. But he chanced it and continued to walk closer to the waving arm and...
"Oh," he announced, promptly removing one of his earbuds. "Hello Lilly."
