Once the study group had concluded for the evening, Lillian decided some fresh air was in order. After a brief stop by her room to drop off her things, she left again. Terri had seemed too absorbed with her novel writing to take notice of Lillian's presence at all as she came and went.
Lillian left the school and walked down the street to the park she sometimes painted at. Unsurprisingly, it was empty. Most people had already gone home for the day.
There was something about being out after dark that felt somewhat thrilling. Whether the world had changed or simply the way Lillian viewed it, it felt good to have some time to herself.
Lillian had been on her way back to the school when she caught sight of something metallic moving in the darkness. Instead of hurrying her pace back, however, Lillian found herself approaching one of the benches next to the sidewalk. She sat down calmly to wait. Perhaps she could get a better look.
Lester couldn't sleep. He supposed this wasn't too unusual. He didn't have any trouble nodding off when he needed to, but he was somewhat talented at staying up till ungodly hours every so often. And this was just one of those nights and he needed to get out of his room. He had sort of gotten out of his room earlier but. There just wasn't enough space around here sometimes.
It was late. It was dark. But that was okay. He had remembered to bring his taser in his pocket and he also had Djinn. He wasn't going to go too far. So he slipped out of the dorms and headed towards the park.
He started humming a little off sync with the song playing in his ears, but no one needed to know that except him.
Suddenly, Lillian heard humming and looked toward it. Seeing Lester amble up the sidewalk, she smiled to herself and waved at him. Though the dress she wore was a very dark shade of purple that bordered on black and blended with the darkness, her skin was still very pale and seemed to almost glow in the moonlight. With her hair loose and flowing over her shoulders, Lillian looked more like a witch or a vampiress waiting for prey to wander into her grasp than a teenage girl.
She knew better than to call out Lester's name; he probably had his earbuds in and wouldn't be able to hear her. Instead, she simply kept waving until she got his attention.
Lester nearly walked right by Lilly until he stopped and stared at the arm waving at him. Or maybe it was past him. He looked over his shoulder to see if there was anyone besides him. But unless there was some kind of invisible critter behind him, he was the only one there. Unless the other person could see the invisible critter! That was always a possibility. But he chanced it and continued to walk closer to the waving arm and...
"Oh," he announced, promptly removing one of his earbuds. "Hello Lilly."
"Hello, Lester," Lillian replied once her friend took his earbud out. "How are you? It's been a while, hasn't it?" A few weeks, at least. Long enough for Lillian's own nerves to settle. She wondered how Lester felt. Without so much as a word or gesture, she simply scooted over on the bench to make room.
Lester nodded and sat down next to her. "I'm doing okay~. Yeah, it's been a while. Just kind of one of those nights where you're kind of awake but you don't know why. What are you doing out here~?"
"I needed some fresh air. I went to the study group meeting earlier and well, I'll just put it this way: it was memorable." She didn't want to badmouth the other girls or talk about them behind their backs but it had effected her enough for her to go off alone afterward. Even after her own suggestion that they use a buddy system and avoid doing just that. Oh, well. Lester was here so she wasn't alone now.
"I thought a walk might clear my head before bed. How about you? Are you just out for a walk, too?"
"Ohh I see. Right. The study group." The one that Emi sent her errand boy out to find a couple of people for.
He kicked his legs a little and looked out at the park. "Mmmm I guess so. Just wanted to get outside somewhere without walls." He nodded to himself...and thought he saw something move.
"Something. I thought I saw something metallic flying around. I was waiting to see if it would appear again," Lillian said as calm as ever. Clearly, she wasn't too worried. If anything, her eyes seemed a little too eager for whatever it was to appear again. "It's good to be out in the open sometimes. It's a lot less restraining."
"Ohhh." He paused and squinted into the dark. He didn't have owl night vision but he supposed he would have to deal with it. "Do you think it's another fairy?"
"No. I think it might be a demon. Maybe more than one." Again, her tone was completely unruffled. "They haven't attacked yet. I don't know if they will. But I haven't been here for long so..."
Lester stood up and took a fe steps forward, squinting into the dark. "I wonder if they really want ro fight or if they're having a rough night too~?" he wondered aloud. He thought something moved again but it was very very hard to see what was going on.
"Should we wait and see or do you think they're waiting for us~?"
Lester had never heard Lilly sound so confident before. At least, her words did. He wasn't so sure about her tone of voice but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. But if she said they would be okay, he figured they would be okay.
He trotted back over to the bench and sat down, or rather flopped down onto it. While he stared out at the sky, trying to squint at the demons(?) to get a better look at them, something suddenly dawned on him.
"It's the 8th," Lillian replied, seemingly staring off into space. In actuality, she was listening for sounds of anything or anyone approaching whether they be human or demon. If there was one thing these experiences had taught, it was to stay alert.
Lester nodded and started counting on his fingers. At least it looked like he was doing something along the lines of counting on his fingers. In a way it was like he was just flexing his fingers over and over again like some kind of strange shadow puppet.
"You have three days..." he muttered. "It's been three days."

Lillian would make sure Lester stayed safe, no matter what it took.

But he had no idea why that popped into his head.
