It... spoke!? Lawrence looked at the troll in what could only be a mixture of confusion, horror and intrigue. It was already not possible for him to say that it was fake, but now... he didn't know what to believe. First he was being crushed, then a flaming bird saved him, and now a troll was talking to him? Everything was happening so quickly that his head was spinning.

"Are you addressing me?" Lawrence asked with a clearly indignant tone, while straightening out his (now RUINED) cravat.

Nodding, to Lynne as a 'you're welcome', he looked back at Lawrence. Then came a moment of deep thought as he tried to remember what that weird thing looked like. The color may have not been right. He was bad with colors.

Finally, he cupped his hands into the shape as best he could for example. "It looked like a butterfly. But it wasn't one. Butterflies don't talk."

Ezra had kept silent and stuck to observing since his last outburst. He certainly wasn't embarrassed at being caught, by Anthony no less - he just didn't want to miss anything now that they were getting useful information out of the troll. The excuse was half true, and not even his irritation at being blatantly ignored by Lawrence kept him from listening closely for the demon's answer. After a moment of surprise, Ezra sighed.

"Sounds familiar, doesn't it," he asked the others quietly. All of this was connected somehow, wasn't it? Would they find all these loose ends tied up neatly in a bow? Ezra half looked forward to and half dreaded the answer. It seemed like both they and the demons were being strung along by the same mysterious force, called to act in a way they couldn't ignore. What would Theodore think of this new development?

"Thanks. We shouldn't keep you any longer." Unless one of the others had something to add... Ezra glanced at them briefly before shoving his hands into his hoodie pockets and falling silent once more.

The Troll wasn't really sure what Ezra met, but he quickly decided in his foggy mind that he was too tired to try and figure it out. Or really care too much for that matter. They seemed nice enough and they were letting him go now. Humans were so strange. He gave one more friendly nod and started finally leaving the group behind.

"Goodnight, dear homies," it called, giving one last wave.

Lynne absently returned the wave, mind still occupied. Once he was gone, her shoulders sagged and she let out a sigh of relief.

"Well...at least that takes care of that."

But it'd also left a new niggling thought in the question pile. There was the butterfly reference again: first when she Awoke - and presumably for everyone, since Chloe said she saw it too -, then on that sign in the attic, and now this. What the hell was up with that thing? It was too much to be a coincidence but the fact she couldn't figure out the connections and the why bothered her. They still needed more information for that.

Still, there were other things that could and had be taken care of. Such as what to do about their new Persona user. She looked over at Lawrence carefully, not sure what he'd do now that the Troll wasn't around, let alone where to start with this guy.

Lawrence's eye twitched as he watched the troll wave and then just leave as if there was nothing more to say. He really wanted an apology from the beast, but he scratched his head in frustration having realized he wouldn't be getting one. The pieces just weren't fitting together in his mind. Why would demons migrate? And why would they listen to a butterfly? Did it have to do with the one he saw before that flaming bird appeared? He shook his head. So many questions, so little answers... and the pile of questions was about to get bigger.

He took a step back, surveying the look on each person's face. They looked almost as clueless as he did. He decided it was time to break the ice, and go on with his purpose for being here in the first place.

"So..." he began, clearing his throat, "would anyone like to explain what exactly just happened? What in the world is a troll doing on campus, what in the hell happened to me, and why are none of you as surprised as I am?"

Lynne straightened her shoulders and shrugged, loosely.

"Like I told you already, we've already had run-ins with demons before, though not all of them are as friendly as Troll." Hell, the ones Lynne had run into before had been trying to kill them. "We can call up things called 'Persona', which are based on mythical figures, just like you now can, to fight. Everyone in our group and a few others can it too, though I couldn't tell you why us or why it happens."

Demons... Persona... mythical figures being conjured to fight evil... it was all just too much for one night. Clearly, Lynne had gone off the deep end. No, she hadn't gone off the deep end. She had driven straight at the deep end at full speed and jumped out of the car as it was in the air and watched the car fall as she followed it off. He shook his head once, twice, three times trying to piece it all together and it just wasn't fitting. Principal Ivors' words loomed at the back of his mind... he still couldn't stop seeing this group of people as nefarious ( ... )

With everything that could have and had gone wrong that night, the outcome had been far from terrible, and Ezra was more than ready to call it a night. Lawrence's questions weren't... unreasonable, but explanations were far from his strong suit, and he didn't want to speak to his room mate any more than was strictly necessary. Having to walk back to their room together would be tense enough. When Lynne decided to answer them, about all Ezra could do was watch her gratefully as she spoke and hope he wouldn't have to step in.

That was before the blond took up that shit-eating grin once more, clearly proud of himself for insulting the one person who'd been the most patient with him. Ezra felt his anger come rushing back for the umpteenth time that night, but this time, he'd reached his limit and he didn't think he would be able to tamp it back down anytime soon. He stepped forward and put a hand on Lynne's shoulder. Let me handle it, it seemed to say before Ezra let go and turned on Lawrence ( ... )

Edited for more venom~ (I apologize for what is to come ^_^;) isolatedscholar August 10 2011, 08:38:09 UTC
Lawrence's grin faded and he looked back at Ezra. He decided not to ignore his remarks so easily this time. The look he had on his face now was not so much annoyed as it was completely pissed off ( ... )

That smile. Those words. That verbal slap to the face. Lynne's eyes narrowed dangerously; Artemis stirred, matching her anger with a simmering edge in her mind. Lynne was about to say something when Ezra put a hand on her shoulder.

She instantly tensed upon contact and while she got his message in the action, the fluttering thought tooclose came to mind as well as relief when he let go. She bit her bottom lip and nodded (though a bit stiffly), trying to brush the discomfort out of her mind, and tried to let Ezra handle Lawrence because her own patience was already at a straining point.

And then Lawrence had to go off again: brushing aside Ezra's words, systematically tearing at each of them, throwing those goddamn accusations at them again, that self-righteous arrogance, and-

Her body moved before her mind kicked in; as much as she hated physical contact, her fist smacked Lawrence across the face.

"You asshole!" She hissed, words tumbling out before she was conscious of it. She was shaking slightly and her eyes looked almost ( ... )

It was coming sooner or later~ isolatedscholar August 10 2011, 09:06:42 UTC
Shock. Horror. Panic. Terror. These were just a few of the feelings Lawrence felt as he hit the ground. What... what was that... how long had it been since he'd felt that. It felt like ages... it was a foreign feeling. It also... hurt. Panic quickly spread through his body as he realized what had happened: Lynne had touched him. And she didn't just touch him, she punched him. He no longer had any control over himself. He looked up at them, first at Lynne, then to Ezra, then to Anthony, and backed away quickly. He stood up and stared at them, wordlessly ( ... )

Lynne just watched, eyes never leaving Lawrence until he left. Then, as quickly as the anger had flooded, it began ebbing away into something else. She was still pissed but as Artemis returned to the back of her mind, taking that extra edge back with her, Lynne was left acutely aware of certain things. Like, how terrible she was feeling right now, how Lawrence had looked, and how her hand ached. Her knuckles stung and a quick look made her aware that the skin was grazed (had she managed to hit it on his teeth? She couldn't remember).

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, racking a hand through her bangs, face hot from anger and guilt.

"Shit," she said quietly. "Really...shouldn't have done that..."

If Lynne's earlier outburst had startled him, Ezra had no idea what to make of the punch. He watched the scene play out in front of him disbelievingly, but took in Lawrence's reaction with wary eyes. He'd failed in preventing the situation from going from bad to worse, but hell if he let a fight break out in front of him without lifting a finger ( ... )

Lynne straightened her shoulders but her voice was still quiet and her eyes averted when she replied to Ezra. "You're right..."

There really wasn't much else they, or at least she, could do right now...She caught herself rubbing at her grazed knuckles and felt another unpleasant stab of emotion. Lynne tried pushing it aside, looked back at Anthony to see if he was coming, and quickly started to head towards the building.
