haha, i still call LBC my toddler sometimes, but then i realized he stopped being a "toddler" long ago....i think the correct term for 3+ is pre-schooler. birthday parties ARE expensive!! i hope you find a good alternative to a $200 party
there are social rules and such about children and birthdays. ben has gone to three classmates' birthday parties, and been invited to tons more. (we couldn't go for transportation reasons) i have to invite all the kids whose parties he's gone to, and by the time i invite all of those kids, there's only like two or three left in his class, and i can't EXCLUDE them, so that's everyone from preschool, plus friends' kids, especially the ones whose birthday parties ben has gone to, plus family, cousins, grandparents etc.
i found a place though, in redmond, that i can do for $140. not like i have that lying around, but we'll scrape it together. it's my son's birthday!
wow, a park in february? what state? here, i mean, there are plenty of decemeber days that you COULD, and actually the thing that i picked is pony rides, which is part outdoors, but it's mostly indoors with a building to have cake and presents in. the pony part is just 5 minutes per kid ...
