Help for a relative

When I was 13, I got the deal of a lifetime when my uncle decided out of the blue that he wanted to take me to Hawaii. This was before he was married or had any kids. I had a nail fungus for almost 8 years or so. I tried a lot of topical remedies which never ever worked because they couldn't reach under the nail bed. With an infection that had lasted this long, it was too far gone.

About a year or two ago I went on Lamisil for 4 months, the pills. They made me pretty ill sometimes and are contradictory in anyone with liver problems because the medication is really really hard on your liver. But it was worth it to me since I was a good candidate and my infection had gotten to the point where it was painful. :(

It worked wonderfully and my nails are completely clear now. Take some time for the old icky nails to grow out.

how do you get it in the first place? is it from like swimming in public pools? or something that just happens like a yeast infection?

I honestly do not know. But my grandma had it, my dad had it and my brother is battling it too so I don't know if we are somehow prone to it or we were all exposed under the same circumstances. It's really hard to tell.
