Our family probably isn't anywhere close to typical, but after my parents divorce, my younger brother and I co-slept with our mother until we were age 13 and 10 (years, not months). It sounds all hippie-ish, but it was very comforting to us kids, knowing that when it was time to go to sleep she was there to keep us safe. We stopped when my mom remarried, but I was glad we were able to sleep that way when we were young and wanted to be near our mommy!
A lot of people would probably flip a lid to hear this, but hey, if it worked for you guys, that's great! as long as she wasn't resentful about it, i don't see what the big deal is. i guess people always just assume that sleeping with someone=sexual contact. its pretty rediculous really. i haven't done any research on this issue in particular, but i'm willing to bet that most abusers do NOT sleep with their victims. co-sleeping is an act of love, not abuse.
that said, the kids have to be comforatable with it too. when a kid wants their own big boy/girl bed, you get it for them, you know? different kids grow out of it at different ages.
honestly, i'm not really seeing it going as well in real life as i have it outlined here in this shiny plan. but hey, we'll see, right?
ha ha ha! i bet he is. the difference though, is that you can move him around or maybe even kick him out if you're having trouble sleeping, and he'll just be like "Oh, OK. I'll just go to sleep in the closet ..." (imagine the billy voice, OK?) with a kid, that plan doesn't work so well :-) not to mention that our closet is really tiny!
Haha. We managed to get Rosemary TO sleep in our bed last night. She normally hates it, but last night we managed to get her to fall asleep in our bed and then get 2 uninterrupted hours of sleep before she decided 5:30 am was the time to get up. ... coffee??
oh man. i'm getting to be a coffee addict. i'm going to have to join CA pretty soon. :-) did you see today's post about ben being up again last night? is rosemary still doing that too? did you find a solution yet? i'm at my wit's end!!!!!!
The past few nights with Faith have been horrid. Thankfully last night she finally slept pretty well. She does the H thing, too LOL I think her fav thing to do is to see how far across the bed she can stretch my nipple, all while kicking her Dad in the kidneys LOL
