try it - it was one of those things i just concocted from the stuff i had in the pantry/fridge, and now i love it and cook it all the time :D thanks for the comment.

Yeah, Kecap Manis is very good for cooking tofu.:D I've never tried with Chili sauce tough. Must do so.

oh man, you have to try chilli sauce with kecap manis!!!!! the chilli really offsets the sweetness of the soy sauce, and the todu just sucks it up like a sponge......so yummy ;D glad you like my recipes :)

I'm saving this recipe. a friend once cooked something as such for me but she's forgotten the recipe when i asked her a few yrs later. hopefully this would be it!

kecap manis; ketjap manis
[KEH-chuhp MAH-nees]
An intensely dark brown, syrupy-thick Indonesian sauce similar to, but with a sweeter, more complex flavor than, SOY SAUCE. Kecap manis is sweetened with palm sugar (see JAGGERY) and seasoned with various ingredients, which generally include garlic and STAR ANISE. It's used in MARINADES, as a flavoring in various Indonesian dishes and as a condiment. Kecap manis can be found in Asian markets. Store indefinitely in a cool, dry place.
