If I signed my contract over to someone else before I moved out of my apartment two and a half months before everyone moved out I should not be held responsible for any damages in the apartment, right ( Read more... )

Can you do what they've done to you and just refuse to pay? I mean, it's not like they can do anything to you?

I have no legal obligation to pay them (I called the apartment office to ask), so I'm not going to pay even if it means pulling the bitch card. It's not like I'm going to ruin some awesome friendship by doing so.

Yes, I think that is the way to go! And it's not even being bitch either, since you're just showing them that you're not a pushover. I hate people that try to take advantage of others' kindness.

Just make sure in your contract, that you signed over to the person that took over your room, that the new tenant would be responsible for the cleaning and whatnot. If that's what it is, you have no legal binding from the ex-roommates and the complex.

Did you transfer the lease to the other person or sublet?

I did transfer the lease over to another person, like a month prior to moving out. I've called the apartment to confirm too and he's told me to have them call him for him to explain it to them too. :)
