If I signed my contract over to someone else before I moved out of my apartment two and a half months before everyone moved out I should not be held responsible for any damages in the apartment, right?
One of my ex-roommates texted me today tell me I need to help pay for stove and carpet damages. I knew the carpet had stains when I left (all due to their drunk friends spilling beer and crap), so I asked what the stove damages were since it was fine when I left. Turns out it's cleanliness charges and she sent me a text stating:
"Cleanness....u didn't help clean anything when u moved out.....me n phuong scrubbed everything frm sink to fridge to stove to floors n bathroom...."
Besides the atrocious grammar, it infuriates me that they're upset that they had to clean all those areas. It's as if they expected me to clean community areas before I left when 1)they were continuing to live there, 2)I had done plenty of cleaning in all of those areas when I lived there when they never did, and 3)they never asked me to clean anything before I left. Not to mention when I lived there as soon as Geoffrey and I would clean up the kitchen on the weekends when we were done using it they would go in there and mess it all up again. I scrubbed the bathtub countless times due to the mildew build-up since the person I shared the bathroom with never did. When I left I cleaned my side of the sink, vacuumed my bedroom, and took all of my belongings out. I honestly feel that I should not have to be financially responsible for any of those charges when my contract with the apartment ended in the middle of May and I know I did not cause any of those damages.
