Okay, I spent a while digging around for information and stumbled onto the Anime on DVD forums. There's a FUNimation representative who posts there and there's
a thread on details for the upcoming "remastered" release.
After what I found out from that thread, it seems like these upcoming releases are just a big disappointment. It's bad enough that the FUNi representative was saying that they had no details just two months before the original release date before it was moved back to August 14, but from what we're seeing, the new DVD set is just going to be nearly exactly the same as the CPM releases. Here are the details that I was able to get from the thread:
- No re-dubbing of the first 13 episodes. (
link,
link)
- No new extras outside of what CPM originally did. (
link)
- Will not be in widescreen aspect ratio. (

- Using the existing scripts from CPM. (

It's good that FUNimation will be keeping the series in its original 4:3 ratio but that's the only good news I could find other than the video and audio being "cleaned up." FUNimation hasn't even released any details on how exactly the video/audio is going to be remastered. x_x
I know that this is more for people who haven't seen Slayers or don't currently own a copy of it, but it would have been nice if FUNi at least cleaned up the subtitles or provided something to make it worth buying for those who already own the old DVD boxes. I'm at the point where I'm seriously considering cancelling my pre-order. x_x;
