Jun 24, 2007 10:39

Okay, I spent a while digging around for information and stumbled onto the Anime on DVD forums. There's a FUNimation representative who posts there and there's a thread on details for the upcoming "remastered" release ( Read more... )

I'm a bit disappointed. I think I'll hold off on the first set for a couple months. I was going to pre-order it, but I don't see much reason to now. I need to save money anyway.

I'm still glad Funi got the rights to it and are re-releasing the series. CPM pulled the series before I could get NEXT and TRY. It's also good that the Slayers name is still out there. It hasn't faded into obscurity just yet!

I'm really glad that FUNi is re-releasing the series too. There's a lot of people out there who haven't seen Slayers yet, or haven't been able to buy the series for themselves before CPM stopped production. ^^ I'm sure FUNi will also advertise the series a bit and spark more interest in it. It's a classic; it shouldn't be ignored by any means and I'm glad it'll continue to be available to fans. :D

I just wish that there was more in it to make me feel like it's worth spending more money. I might end up getting it anyway, just to support the series... but we'll see. :9

I'm canceling my preorder. I don't watch the dub anyway, but using the shitty CPM scripts and not putting in any other extras really steams my vegetables. I'm not going to pay FUNimation to see mazoku translated as "Monster" again. If I want that crap, I'll stick with the subpar DVDs I already have. >:(

I really don't blame you for cancelling your pre-order at all. :/ I think it's pretty low of FUNi to keep a low-down on the details (or lack there of), hoping people will just shell out the money in hopes of getting something more. It was SO hard for me to find any information at all outside of that post.

I'm going to wait a bit more to see if anything changes before cancelling my pre-order. That FUNi rep said they were using existing scripts but I'm going to be wishful here and hope that they delayed the release to at least clean up the subtitles.

The "Monster" thing as Mazoku just pisses me off so much, too. x_x eugh.

I was an avid poster on that particular forum, and I can attest to all of that. Frankly, this is very, very disappointing. Considering how much FUNi has become a a literal financial giant in the anime industry, this is very below par given all the special treatment other series have gotten.

I guess we can be a little thankful that Slayers didn't get that whole "special treatment" that DBZ got.

I kinda glazed over the huge internet commotion regarding the DBZ sets, but from what I remember, fans were complaining because FUNI re-released DBZ in cheap, uncut boxsets. They were advertising it as "the way it was meant to be seen" but they made it wide screen when it was never meant to be seen wide screen.

SOMETHING LIKE THAT. It didn't bother me. I have the first set. haven't watched it all the way through though >.>

Yeah, if I didn't already own the series, I'd be totally pumped about FUNi's re-release, extras or not. But I think it's a serious mistake on their part not to provide anything new for the older fans... They're losing out on a lot of business because people just don't want to shell out more money for nearly the exact same thing.

Makes me wonder why exactly they don't have any new stuff at all if they kept delaying the release because they were waiting for materials from Japan.

I'm sticking to my old-school bootleg.

Nothing like Hong Kong quality, baby.
