The epicenter of DISASTER! jaded_feathers August 18 2008, 16:36:03 UTC
"Why the fuck is the water rising!" Tira shrieked as she coughed up more water from her lungs. If the girl didn't know how to swim, she would have surely downed by now since the water here has nearly risen to her torso. She was swimming around trying to find those water values to turn them off, hopefully to slow the water flow at least! Unluckily for her, it seemed all her good efforts went in vain for she now had a nasty burn along her right arm thanks to the hot steam billowing out nearby.

"Shit shit shit!!!" Tira was trying to keep herself from panicking but she lost her communication device along the makeshift sea here and the emergency exit out of here was locked shut because of the pressure of the water.

"This is fuckin bullshit...I did not survive Kropmork just to die here." She sighed tearfully, swimming over toward the door again.
"HELP! GET ME OUT OF HERE!" Tira ended up wailing yet again, tearing up for she had a sinking feeling that no one could hear her now.

Maxim tore through the door in the hall that led to the lower levels. The kitchen, the hangar, the engines, the boiler room, and several storage rooms were all down here. He'd already had to convince several panicked people to stop packing so much crap and just get to the deck. Some of them he even had to threaten ( ... )

In the middle of her tearful sobs, Tira nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard a voice call back to her. "M-MAXIM?!!!" She knew his voice well and even over the roar of the chaos around her, Tira could tell it was him!

"O-okay!!" The violet eyed girl yelled back as she swam away from the door, clinging to a railing that lead upstairs to another locked door she couldn't open.

Hearing a confirmation that Tira was moving away, Maxim waited a few seconds to give her time. Then he reached up to grab onto some pipes on the ceiling, curled his knees up to his chest and kicked out against the door. Apparently in his panic he'd kicked harder than necessary and the door went shooting through the water in the storage room in several different pieces.

A huge wave of water came rushing out and Maxim's grip on the pipes tightened to keep from getting washed away. He pulled himself forward using the doorframe and fought his way through to water. It was warmer in here and it made the blisters on his face and chest throb with pain. The water level wasn't quite as high in the room as it had been before but it was still necessary to swim.

He spotted Tira, wet and frightened on the other side of the room and relief rushed over him when she appeared to be okay otherwise. "Ve gots to get goink!" He reached out to her.

Being a helmsman was boring work at times. There was a lot sitting around by yourself, steering in one direction for hours at a time. Still, when something did happen, it seemed that you were responsible for every life on board. This made Akima proud, rather than scared. She'd been doing this job for several years on different ships and had faced just about every disaster you could think of.

The ship jerked in flight and Akima furrowed her brows. She'd felt some jarring earlier but nothing this big. This wasn't normal turbulence.

Suddenly, the people that were up on deck started panicking and running. Akima shouted to them. "Hey! What's going on?"

No one answered her in the frenzy. She waited a moment or two for someone to buzz her on the helm's communicator and bring her up to speed but no one did. Frustrated, she hit the button next to the comm.

"Helm to engineering. What's going on down there?"

[ooc: engineering = mechanics]

Toshirou stood calmly by the desk, going over the maps finding out exactly where they were using the information he'd gotten from Knuckles journal. Feeling the ship jerk, he looked over at Akima and saw that she was already trying to get someone to answer her on the communicator.

Well, let everyone else panic he'd just concentrate on his job, and not worry about things out of his control.

Knuckles, having quickly grabbed the pieces that made up his shoes, made his way as fast as he could to where Akima and Toshirou was. He had just come back from carrying Kambei to the top deck. Panting and completely clueless about the recent message from the captain, Knuckles gave out a single question.

"Hey, is this thing gonna land or what?"

Toshirou looked up or rather down at Knuckles. It felt weird for the young man to look down at someone. "I was just trying to figure out how much time we had left in the air." He said to Knuckles. "I'd say we have about twenty minutes tops, and using the information you left me, we're about forty-five minutes away from the nearest river."

Throwing the pen down on the papers he sighed. "So to answer you're question, yes we'll land. But you'll have to talk to Akima if you want to know anymore, she's been on the comm link the entire time and hasn't told me anything."

Lavi shoved open the door and clattered down the stairs, narrowly avoiding falling - while the water hadn't reached this level yet, wet feet climbing the stairs had made them too slippery to go careering down carelessly.

Regaining his balance, he set off at a run down the corridor. "Third door on the left, third door on the left..."
He skidded to a halt outside the door in question, grabbing the handle and pushing.

Nothing happened. He shook the handle a little desperately. Gorobei wouldn't have sent him down here to get blueprints from a locked room, surely?

He looked up and down the corridor...yes, this was definitely the right door. Maybe it was stuck? He set his shoulder against the door and shoved.

After his altercation with Reno, the samurai turned gunner was now searching along the storage levels looking for items that will be useful to treat any of the injured on board. Unlike many others who opted to save the food supply first, Kambei thought it would be wise for at least someone to save the medical supplies instead. Judging by how quickly the airship is losing altitude, he had no doubts that this could perhaps lead to a few serious injuries and even a few deaths ( ... )

Pushing floating boxes out of the way, Maxim waded through the water on the storage level. It wasn't nearly as hot or as high as it had been on the other side of the ship. The heat and water must be coming from that direction, and Maxim didn't want to go back there anytime soon.

"Hoy! Iz ennybody down here? Meester Kambei!"

Hearing someone yelling nearby, the old samurai certainly did not recognize the voice at all. "I am here! Be careful along the way." Kambei quickly replied as he stacked two medium sized boxes into his arms and carried them toward the stairway.

"If you are here to help, start by grabbing those boxes from the center closet!"

Well, it hadn't exactly been what Maxim had in mind as far as "helping", but at least it was something. And Gorobei had told him to find Kambei so...

"Hokay, Meester Kambei. Hyu got it!" Now that Tira was out of immediate danger Maxim was able to relax a bit and he took on the cheerful, enthusiastic attitude typical of Jägerkin.

Heading for the closet as instructed Maxim began piling up boxes in his arms, ending up carrying far more than was probably expected of him. Balancing them easily, he ducked out of the door and headed for the deck.

If Heihachi could hear the sound of a Nobuseri airship from a mile away, he should have had a much easier time tracking the sound of running water, but the noise seemed to echo strangely down here and the current was deceptive. By the time he was close the water was past his waist and creeping up to his chest, but in spite of his own fears he kept pressing forward. When the water started actively pushing back he knew he was near, and using the walls he managed to push himself forward until he found what he was looking for ( ... )

A large, dark shadow slipped through the water against the currents and before too long, Maxim's head surfaced, sputtering water. He wiped the water from his eyes and grinned broadly at Heihachi.

"Hey dere! Meester Kambei said hyu could use some help."

Heihachi had been so absorbed with the pipe that he missed Maxim's approach until the Jager was right beside him, rising from the depths like some kind of sea monster. He yelped in surprise, his hands slipping on the wheel, and getting partially dunked.

"Maxim?" he asked, a little uncertainly because being waterlogged was making the demi-human look a bit more monsterous than usual, but he was quick to regain his composure when he heard Kambei's name. "Oh good. Here, come help me with this! If we can turn the wheel it'll shut off the water."

"Turn de vheel, huh?"

Maxim took a moment to examine the wheel, then waded to the side of it, setting his feet firmly on the floor. "Aktually, broddah... hyu might vant to shtand beck." He waved sideways at Heihachi, indicating him to move back just a bit.
