"Hey dere! Meester Kambei said hyu could use some help."

"Maxim?" he asked, a little uncertainly because being waterlogged was making the demi-human look a bit more monsterous than usual, but he was quick to regain his composure when he heard Kambei's name. "Oh good. Here, come help me with this! If we can turn the wheel it'll shut off the water."

Maxim took a moment to examine the wheel, then waded to the side of it, setting his feet firmly on the floor. "Aktually, broddah... hyu might vant to shtand beck." He waved sideways at Heihachi, indicating him to move back just a bit.

As he moved away he noticed a few dark streaks on his gloves. At first glance he dismissed it as flecks of rust from when he'd tried to grease the wheel, but a second examination revealed it to be soot marks. Their presence baffled him until he took a second look at the wheel. He hadn't seen it the first time because he'd been too distracted by the rising water, but around the joint that connected it to the valve, there was a small bubble of metal. The wheel had been welded in place. What...?
"Wait!" he said as Maxim began to turn it. There was a small chance that he could break the seal and get the wheel to turn, but just as much of a chance that he would break it off entirely.

"Vhat? VHAT?! Iz it doink somethink bad? Vhat?!" He looked around for whatever Heihachi was presumably seeing that he wasn't.

He didn't want to air his suspicion just yet, especially not to Maxim who was known for taking things over the top. Instead he stepped forward and had a look at the damage to the valve. Part of the metal had twisted, but from the way the pipe was shaking the flow had been cut down at least slightly. "You might be able to keep turning, but be careful or it'll snap off. There'll be another valve further up the pipe, but I don't know how far it'll be."
And he didn't know if it might have also been compromised, but he didn't say that.

As a result, he was very glad to round a corner and find Heihachi and Maxim - Gorobei's directions were right this time, then?
"Heihachi?" he called, relieved, as soon has he spotted them. "Gorobei said you needed some help?"

Moving through the water was a lot more difficult now, and Heihachi distantly regretted not taking off a few of his extra layers of clothing while he'd had the chance. He still would, if the water got much higher, but he needed the tools in his vest and he'd rather not lose his coat if he could help it.
He could hear Maxim struggling with the wheel, which should keep the Jager distracted for a minute. The noise from the busted pipe was deafeningly loud, which would hopefully cover what he wanted to say. He wasn't certain yet, but just in case he didn't make it back on his own he needed someone else to know before the water washed away the evidence ( ... )

"Uh... so, vot exektly does dis mean?" He held up the wheel, showing Heihachi.

Maxim holding up the wheel lent a very solid backup to what Heihachi had said. Lavi had no idea what exactly the thing was, but it looked important...and it didn't look like it was supposed to be detatched. He swore under his breath, looking at Heihachi as the authority here. The man's next words were not reassuring at all, though. Could things get any worse?
There wasn't much Lavi wanted more right now than to get the hell out of here, but...if Kambei was flushing the whole damn ship out, it wasn't going to be any safer for Heihachi and Maxim than it was for him. And Gorobei had said not to leave Heihachi down here if it was dangerous.
And it certainly was.
But from what Heihachi was saying, if they all left now, they'd lose the whole ship.
Fuck. This was not the sort of decision he wanted to have to make ( ... )

"Besides, when the water starts to drain, at least we won't have to worry about drowning anymore," he added brightly. "I have some rope. I'll tie us both to the ship if need be."
He was pretty sure he could handle this. Sure it was dangerous, but so was the life of a samurai. You couldn't run from these things.
Lavi's journal was clearly done for. Heihachi's own had gotten an unpleasant dunking when Maxim had surprised him, so that meant Lavi was his only chance of getting his message out.
"You need to take care of your own mission," he told Lavi firmly. "Don't worry about us. I'm responsible for us both, so I won't be doing anything reckless."

"Danger? Hoho! If Hy had a middle name, dot vould be it!" He let the useless wheel sink to the floor. "Hy shtay vit hyu, Meester Heihachi. Chust lead de vay." He smiled cheerfully, not because he was trying to lighten the mood, but simply because he didn't know how else to behave in the face of doom. It was moments like these that made Maxim truly enjoy life. To him it was just not worth living otherwise.

"By the way, I don't suppose you can swim?" he asked Maxim lightly. It was a question that was becoming a lot more pertinent the higher the water rose. "Because I should probably tell you that I can't."
He'd simply never had much of an oppertunity to learn, though after this was over he swore he was going to.

"Pfft! Efferybody ken svim. Dey chust don't try. All hyu gots to do iz kick hyu feet." He demonstrated by diving forward and doing a simple paddle, easily passing Heihachi in the water. "Hyu better keep op...!"
