Optimus Prime had a great deal to think about. He stood rock-still on the deck, completely unmoved by the chill winds that blew hard when the ship traveled at this speed. The air rushing past his auditory sensors provided a backdrop to his thoughts.

This was too similar to what happened in Antrim for Optimus to approach it with a clear processor. Dinobot's presence on the ship did not help. The question was not, "Should I act," but rather, "how much risk can I put the crew at?" He believed Jade's assertion that her friends needed help, and Sam's information on satyrs had confirmed that they would be fighting malicious enemies. Rushing headlong into the battle unprepared would put the crew at risk, but preparing would take time they didn't have.

Suddenly, Prime's gears ground into motion. He leaned forward, resting his hands on the rail, and let out a long sigh from his vents.

Edgeworth heard the sharp friction of metal as he approached the deck. Curious, and a bit apprehensive, he looked up, only to see none other than their secretive captain. His eyes widened in shock; while he had heard about him from the first mate, nothing compared to the actual sight of him. It would be unbelievable if Prime wasn't right there in front of him. To think, a ship led by a living, thinking, feeling machine...

Well, man or machine, he was still the captain. Edgeworth took a deep breath and stepped forward - only to falter when Prime sighed.

...that...that was nothing. And besides, nobody else was here to see his faux-pas. Edgeworth quickly composed himself and approached his new captain.

"Hello, sir."

Prime's head snapped up at the voice. Had he really been so lost in his own thoughts that he hadn't noticed the other's approach? It had been the wind that had filled his audials with static. Turning to face Edgeworth, the captain looked the other up and down. He'd never seen the man before, but the missing arm gave away his identity immediately.

"You must be Miles Edgeworth," he said. "Forgive me, I...didn't hear you approach."

It was strange to be looked over by a ...being such as Prime. With a human or a demi-human, he knew where he stood, more or less; while he wasn't the most empathetic person, facial cues and body language were still valuable tools. However, with his blank features, he was completely unreadable.

"It's no trouble," he said quickly. "I would like to speak with you, though, if you have the time."

Joshua was wandering the corridors to stretch his legs after being in his cabin for some time, a certain little young monster following in his footsteps. He didn't know why Shibu liked to follow him around so much, but he let her as long as she didn't behave badly. It was while he was walking (and subconsciously keeping an eye out for the monster) that he spotted a familiar, yet unfamiliar character.

Oh my, was that Edgeworth he was seeing? He looked a very different man without the frills and foppishness. It was almost like seeing someone with glasses without them for the first time. Well, there was also the missing arm, but that wasn't what he chose to comment on in his opening greeting.

"Nice hat." Joshua smirked. "Glad to see you finally got rid of that old bowler. It really wasn't doing you any favours, you know."

Edgeworth had barely noticed the young man as he walked by. However, that voice, that slimy, smarmy, all-too-amused voice was completely unforgettable. A trickle of dread ran down his spine and he slowly turned to face him.

"Hrk!" Edgeworth nearly bit his own tongue off as he jerked back. "Y-you!"

Wonderful! It was good to know he elicited such a strong response from the de-fopped man.

"Why yes, it's me," Joshua replied, brushing back stray strands of hair from his face. "I'm flattered you're so pleased to see me, but surely you could have remembered my name!"

"I know perfectly well who you are," he snapped back. "However, that doesn't explain what you're doing here!"

The fact that the question applied to Edgeworth far more than it did to Joshua hadn't occurred to him. Instead, the only thing on his mind was the irrational suspicion that the entire universe had conspired against him, and Joshua's appearance was further evidence of this theory.

Justin made it a point to spend most of each day in the Records Room, even if there wasn't always enough to do to fill up that much time. The days with a sudden inrush of paperwork, frequently coinciding with shore leave for everyone else, made up for the usually slow pace of the job. In any case, he had plenty of his own (well, Ari's) work, which wasn't easily distinguishable from the ship's paperwork to anyone who walked in. He worked on that in the Records Room instead of his own cabin, wanting to be available in case anyone needed anything ( ... )

He had enough time to get settled into the ship. Now it was time to get settled into his new work. In a way, Edgeworth actually looked forward to it. He had done practically nothing in these past few months, and he despised it. What he needed now, most of all, was something to keep his mind off of what happened.

Now it was time to meet his new coworker. He raised his fist and gave a sharp knock against the door.

"Come in!" he called out automatically. It wasn't a private room, people weren't required to knock in any case, and he wasn't in the habit of making anyone wait at the door.

His main job, however, wasn't dealing with visitors, so he didn't bother getting up from his current position on the floor with a pile of papers in his lap until he saw it was someone who did require his immediate attention, not just one of the crewmembers with a question or Ulquiorra coming by to check on him.

Seeing the stranger, he got up, leaving the papers on the floor to finish dealing with later, and made his way to the door. He took in his appearance with a glance - the missing arm, the tension, a bit of impatience - but his reaction was no more than would be expected in an encounter with someone new.

"Hello. I'm Justin Walker," not his real name, but he was used to it enough that it might as well be, "the current record-keeper. Would you be my new co-worker?"

Edgeworth nodded, and in a crisp, even tone, said, "That I am. Miles Edgeworth, at your service."

At that, he offered his good hand to shake. In a moment he'd look around and make his own judgments on his new surroundings, but for now, he still had to take care of introductions.

Time and the lack of uniform and arm almost caused Beat to look right past the newcomer on the Convoy. But that uncommonly pale hair and straight backed posture were hard to ignore, and when he took a moment to actually LOOK his stomach feel right down to his shoes.

First instinct was that Edgeworth was coming to arrest them all (even though this wasn't a pirate ship) and the next was that, hey wasn't he dead ohgodhe'sa GHOST!

But after that he just snarled from his end of the corridor like a pissed off cat. "You!"

Now what was that about? He had just barely arrived on the ship; surely that wasn't enough time to make a mistake. Edgeworth sighed and turned around.

Unfortunately for the former first mate, recognition did not come as easily to him as it did to Beat. He arched a brow and asked, "Is there a problem?"

"Don' play dumb, yo!" Beat stomped up to the older man, all hell and brimstone and not minding getting right up in Edgeworth's personal space.

"What da HELL are you doin' here?!"

If Edgeworth could hazard a guess it would be that this brat wasn't angry about anything he'd done on the Convoy. No, this was somebody who recognized him, possibly from the old days. Or was it one of Bradley's-no, no, that was impossible. Iroh said this was a safe ship. Besides, he doubted that someone like that would be so ...emotive.

However, despite his inner worries, his face was as cool and impassive as ever. He looked down at Beat, completely unimpressed by his rage and turmoil, and said in a calm, even tone, "I was invited here."
