It was about an hour after the Warrior had begun his training that a very broody-looking redhead wandered in, a big gourd strapped to his back. Gaara was vaguely hoping to relieve some of his pent-up stress through practising his control over the sand, but he wasn't getting too optimistic about it. He cusually sat himself down on a weight-lifting bench after carefully hefting the gourd off his back and setting it down next to him. Then the stopper worked its way out of the mouth of the large container--without Gaara so much as moving a muscle--and allowing a small stream of sand to slink out. The redhead slowly held out an open hand, where the sand gathered in his palm and began to take on strange and vaguely recognizable shapes as it shifted and hovered a few centimeters above his hand.

This was how Gaara trained himself. It didn't look like much, but it took laser-like concentration to manipulate the sand so finely. The redhead showed absolutely no sign of having noticed the other person in the room, swinging a sword around.

He was still largely focused on his sword work, though another person entering the room registered in some part of his mind. He took the lack of a greeting as a sign that the other person was not interested in socializing, so other than a small pause and a quick glance toward the boy and the strange gourd he carried, the Warrior of Light didn’t acknowledge the new person in the room in favor of turning back to his practice.

He still hadn’t gotten his movements to be quite right without the shield. It was a matter of balance and of awareness. He was used to compensating for the heft of his shield while he fought. Now that he was not often carrying the shield with him, he would need to change that. He had to focus his attention on consciously changing how he moved, before he could begin to drill himself to commit the move to muscle-memory ( ... )

The redhead, having not expected to be spoken to on top of being so focused on the sand, blinked in surprise and looked over at the heavily armored young man. The sand immediately froze in mid-transition, caught between a flower and a spear. Gaara hummed quietly at the Warrior's words, glancing back down at the sand.

"...I can't explain how." he said simply, giving a tiny shrug. "It's second-nature to me. I don't really have to think about it."

“Still, it is an impressive magic.” He said. “I have never met anyone with such an ability.” He sheathed his sword for the moment and stepped forward, not close enough to get into Gaara’s personal space, but close enough that he could examine the sand that he controlled more closely.

He didn’t mean to bother the boy, but he did find it interesting, and the redhead didn’t seem particularly adverse to conversation, only perhaps a bit reserved. He knew of magic, of course. His own mana crystal allowed him to cast, though only very specifically.

Lee had been feeling much better after taking some time to himself and finally talking with Gaara seriously and without tears about everything. He was slowly but surely returning to his usual, upbeat self, walking around with a bright smile on his face, a thumbs up for anyone in need, and a positive attitude ( ... )

Oh, my god, that just made my day. XD toshinebrighter September 4 2010, 16:24:11 UTC
For most of his time in the training center, he had ignored the other occupant in favor of simply working with his blade. It could have been interesting to watch the technique the other used- he was not altogether familiar with martial arts, and watching would have been informative- but it was not what he had come here to do. He was here to work with his sword, not to watch. Training in front of others was nothing that would make him nervous, after all. Perhaps if Lee had offered to spar, he would have taken him up on the offer, but they had remained in their own separate areas all afternoon, at least until the black-haired boy finally stopped his training.

The enthusiastic greeting and sudden approach startled him into turning with his sword raised. It was instinct, made all the stronger by the fact that he had been honing his abilities. The fact that it had been a greeting and not a sudden attack made him lower the sword again quickly enough, but the initial reaction had been there. The others that he had fought with before had ( ... )

glad I could do that ^^ the_blue_beast September 4 2010, 16:29:56 UTC
Lee's muscles reacted on instinct, tensing at the sudden move to attack, but he relaxed once the blade was dropped glad that this person was not about to attack him. Lee hated fighting women. It was most dishonourable.

He shook his head, waving his hands before him. "Oh, I am so sorry! I did not mean to startle you! I was just watching you after my youthful run, and I thought I would say hello! I have never seen you before, and I am still rather new to the ship, so I thought I would introduce myself.

"Warrior of Light?" he repeated. "That is an interesting title, Madame! You must be very skilled in battle to have such a title," he gushed, completely and totally oblivious.

Thank you for that. They certainly had a memorable first meeting toshinebrighter September 4 2010, 16:50:58 UTC
“I was not paying attention to my surroundings. It is no fault of yours.” He said dismissively. It was yet another difference between ship life and his old life that he would have to work out. This one would be more difficult to deal with, since he did not want to get rid of his fighting instinct. “I am new to the ship as well. I joined only a few days ago, as a weapons master.” The words “youthful run” were strange, but he didn’t comment on them. Perhaps it was some form of training technique ( ... )

Rock came into the training center, to orginally practice his aim with his revolver, and see if he could pull off...what was did that book call it? Gangsta style of holding a gun. It sounded cool looking at the very least.

However there was a man in armor practicing moves and he looked like he was concentrating deeply. Not wanting to disturb him, the boy sat down and watched the man.

For some time, the Warrior of Light continued to practice. He remained focused on his blade and his work, repeatedly running through a series of moves and occasionally pausing to correct some problem he found in his stance or his movements. Only after some time had gone by did he pause enough to notice that Rock had come into the room. He had turned away to take up the sheath he had left against the wall, only to see that there was now a young man sitting there.

He clearly had not expected that he was being watched, though he did not seem embarrassed by the discovery, either. "Ah, hello," he said, nodding in greeting.
