Penelo was doomed, or at least she felt that way. She'd seen Jean dance, and the older woman was way better than Penelo was (she thought). The other woman she didn't know, but really, with Jean in the competition...

No, she wasn't going to think like that. Thinking that you're going to lose means you will lose, and Penelo would never forgive herself if she lost like that. Taking a deep breath, Penelo adjusted her skirt and waited for her turn

Her kimono was heavy, silk, pink. She waited on the stage, in the dark, for her musical cue. Still as a statue she waited, fan in hand, nervous. Yet nerves were the one thing she could not afford to show.

Rangiku had decided to start the competition with something simple and classic. The Cherry Blossom dance had seemed a natural fit for the Hanami festival. As the music started and the lights came up, the statue that had been Rangiku began to move, easing into a series of slow, graceful motions, dipping and swaying.

As she turned slowly around the stage her fan opened, moving harmoniously with the lines of her body and the swirling of her long, heavy sleeves. The fan, woman and kimono all worked together to become like long boughs of pink cherry blossoms swaying in the wind. The fan fluttered down in the fickle wind, showing its path. The quick, precise movement of Rangiku's feet kept her moving across the stage in a deceptively rapid way, the graceful trailing motions of her arms keeping the dance peaceful.

"Ah... she's quite good, isn't she?" Jean commented to Penelo in an approving whisper, watching Rangiku on the stage ( ... )

The judges watched Rangiku silently, not paying attention to anything else. When the dance was over, the MC prompted the man in the suit to dance.

"I think that was a beautiful dance!" he said, waving his arms around as if that would illustrate his point. "So elegant, so wonderful, I want to say good job."

The woman was next. "I agree with him, that was absolutely great! You were with the music and were totally great! Good job!"

The old man in the middle seemed to take his time before speaking. "Miss Rangiku, I think you relied too much on the fan. To me, that was more about performance than about dancing."

The crowd booed.

Well, this was it.

...not that Yosuke even knew why he was even here in the first place (besides the obvious fact that he had been forced by the rest of the team to join this) but - seriously. Why was he here again?

Not like I can actually back out now like that other guy did... the teenager thought to himself sullenly as he tried not to scratch at the suit he was wearing. It was something he had, er, rented, in order to join the competition. It didn't look bad by any account, but the suit was just so stiff and starchy and thick and ungh, he was sure he was going to die in this thing within the next ten minutes.

Grimacing at the stiff way it moved, Yosuke had to do his best not to feel that put out as he started an inner mantra to himself. Alright, its just this dance. Once I'm done with this I can return this suit back and pretend none of this had ever happened. Hopefully. Though as he looked at the crowds, the brunette suddenly didn't seem too sure about that.

So far, the festival was proving to be very entertaining, if not too entertaining. No matter where one turned, there would always be something to do or see. Larsa, for the time being, wasn't completely tired out, and was in fact looking forward to an event to top off the night of his less-than-eventful day. In such a case, a dancing competition would be perfect.

Erealia was a place where cultures often blended together, and so be able to watch different styles of dance was a treat all on its own. He shifted where he stood, feeling the very opposite of restless as he tried not to be swallowed by some of the much taller people in the surrounding crowd.
