Characters: Crew of Serenity Content: The hunting of sky pork Setting: Up in the air above the Badlands Time: After repairs have been made from Stitch's Bizarre Adventure Warnings:
Angel had no intention of getting involved in the actual hunting. She was hardly a weak woman, but she was far better at taking enemies down mentally than physically. And there wasn't much talking could do to bring down a pig.
But she wanted one of those pigs for the kitchen. That delicious meat was full of opportunities: they could have pork chops, or spare ribs, or honeyed ham, or sausages, or bacon, or...
Well, never mind that. First they had to actually catch these pigs. So she was lending a hand in a way that would hopefully keep her safely out of the line of fire: scanning the skies for any sign of a flying pig with a small spyglass.
With the black eye on his face mostly healed after a few Diarama's and some rest, Yosuke was more than ready to head out and help around in this whole Sky Pig hunt that was finally underway. It really was about time too - between this and everything that had happened, having something expected was really much appreciated now.
Jogging up to the closest person he could spot - one of the cooks, if he remembered - the brunette went up to her, idly adjusting the glasses he had put on just in case anything happened (which he hoped wouldn't happen). "Seen anything so far?"
She lowered her spyglass for a moment, exposing that cold, white eye of hers, so that she could look over the broader view of the sky rather than simply examining the details.
"There's always things to be seen. Small, subtle things... even the plainest rice will have a flavor, if your tongue is sensitive enough to taste it." She scowled. "But if you mean the sweet, succulent taste of delicious ham... no. Not yet."
"..." There was a pause as Yosuke took in the woman's words, trying his best not to raise his eyebrows or lineface at that while replying with his own. "...right." You could have just worded it properly instead of going off on those metaphors.
The teenager took a moment to loosen himself up, making sure that his kunais were ready to be drawn out at a moment's notice before speaking again. "Well if you spot any then me sure to let me know. I'll make sure to bring it down for the ship!" It would be good practice with accuracy with Jiraiya anyway - he really needed it, if he wanted to improve his Persona better.
Hisoka, for once, was not at the cannons. He was on the main deck handling one of the net guns.
It was a hot, sunny day, but the air cooled rapidly as the ship gained altitude, and he pulled a denim jacket on over his overalls, and knotted a bandana around his head for a sweatband. This was hunting, and it would be messy work.
He didn't much care for killing animals.
But he believed they needed the cash. The Grinders probably hadn't paid Reynolds in full for the spare parts, and on top of that, the bill for the recent repairs to the ship was unlikely to have been a small one.
Kenpachi had left his shirt behind in the cabin, walking comfortably around the deck with his chest bare--which makes it very clear that his bulk is not mere weight. He was built like a tank, massive muscles rippling under dozens of scars from old fights.
At the moment, he was examining a harpoon with a feral grin. Now that was a weapon, not like the sissy cannons. It was pretty much a sword on a string. Of course, he still had his own sword, too, slung over his back. He looked over at the brown-haired man and at the net gun. "That ain't gonna kill 'em, ya know," he said.
Yachiru's tiny head popped up around Kenpachi's shoulder. Ken-chan wouldn't let her go shirtless, so she had on a tiny little undershirt and shorts. "Y'need sharp pointy things!"
Hisoka finished loading the net gun, and then swung it on its pedestal, which was bolted to the gunwale. He brought it around to sight on a tree top as they were passing the nearest mountain peak.
"You're right this won't kill anything," he said, softly, "but whatever you skewer with your sharp pointy things is liable to fall out of the sky and hit the rocks and explode into minced pork. You might need me to net it before that happens."
There was a trace of twinkle in his eyes. He nodded to the burly Kenpachi, whom he had met briefly in the cafeteria right after the delivery mission. To Yachiru, he said, "I'm Hisoka Kurosaki. You would be one of the powder monkeys?"
Bang, along with her usual supply of hidden bits of cutlery and guns, had taken the liberty of commandeering one of the shiny harpoon guns for herself. At the moment, however, she was not behind it.
Oh, she had been, for about 7 seconds until she got bored, realized it would probably be a while before there were any squealers to shoot at, and decided it would be more fun to make sure the various crewmembers stationed around her were in position, ready, and did not need any... motivation. It had been far too long since she'd gotten to use her electrocution gauntlet.
Sadly, this was one of the days that Zack really did not want to be helmsman. It meant that in situations like these, he was stuck behind the wheel and not on deck, helping the hunt! Zack conveniently ignored the fact that he was primarily a swordsman, and while he was a fair enough and with throwing knifes, neither skill was all suitable for hunting pigs that fly.
Seeing his replacement walk on in to take his place, Zack was off to the deck in a flash.
"Sure!" Zack called back, jogging up. Like the knifes, he wasn't all that great with using other thrown weapons, but it couldn't be that hard, could it? The pigs were supposed to be huge, and huge generally meant easier to hit.
Hisoka quit fiddling around with the net gun, turned his eyes to the horizon, and answered, "I think...that's them now!" He grabbed his binoculars from around his neck, and adjusted them furiously.
"Have a look?" he asked, offering the binocs to Zack.

While not technically part of the crew, Rufus was on deck anyway, watching them all prepare. Growing up in the city meant that hunting was not a pastime he had a great deal of experience at, but he was a good shot, and he had enjoyed his handful of excursions. Right now he was wishing he had brought one of his rifles with him on this trip. While hunting sky pigs with a handgun would likely be an...interesting experience, he knew it was not likely to net him much in the way of results.
Reno was running around, trying to find where the fuck his helmet had gone when he ran into Rufus. Not literally, but. It wasn't pleasant anyway. Okay, yeah, so technically the guy was still his boss. That didn't mean Reno had to like him dropping off the face of the planet and cutting off his pay for seemingly no reason.
Rufus raised an eyebrow at the redhead, and gave him a not-entirely-pleasant grin. "I don't recall hearing anybody say that passengers had to stay below. And I'm not in the way." Running into Reno onboard the Serenity had been an interesting coincidence. He had meant to speak to him again before this, but Jennifer had rather grabbed his attention, and the unfortunate aftermath of their shopping expedition had left him out of commission for a few days.
