YOU ASKED FOR IT -- p.s., this can beee second day? divinated June 15 2010, 01:13:49 UTC

Not that life could grant wishes, after all. That was a miracle, and those didn't exist.

The sound of Yuuko's heels echoed down the corridor toward the infirmary, each step sounding with a cheery purpose: to come visit the ever-charming Hijikata, who'd she'd heard was confined to bedrest. And for good reason, naturally, apart from them being the doctor's orders. What sort of moron would go prancing around if they were injured, mortally or otherwise?

Oh, yes. Hijikata would.

Coming to a stop over the door's threshold, the enchantress smoothed one pale hand up the frame in some form of greeting. She said nothing, and merely waited for the little patient to either notice or sense her presence. Maybe even catch a whiff of her opium, or her perfume. Yuuko smiled, anchoring her other wrist to her hip.

That boy just had no idea how to stay out of trouble, did he?

YES I DID - and sure, that's fine by me. mayovice June 15 2010, 01:24:24 UTC
The second day only, and Hijikata was already starting to feel that he could just die of boredom. The first day hadn't been so terrible since there were those procedures and papers and all that whatnot to do with the doctors, but now that he had nothing to do besides lying down and stare at the (incredibly boring) ceiling the man could start to feel his (incredibly short) patience gnawing at the edge of his conciousness. How would he rather prefer to be doing some work instead of lying down here and wasting time... not to mention how useless he felt now while being stuck here ( ... )

Her smirk only widened at the motion.

If Yuuko ever did what people wanted her to do -- such as going away -- where would she get her fun? Watanuki was undoubtedly amusing, but like all pet owners, they eventually got tired of watching their fish swim around from day to day. And if Watanuki was a fish, he would be a carp. Not that a carp would fit into a normal sized fish tank.

Each step that brought her closer was accompanied by the tinkling of the bells on her earrings, serving almost like a guide. Not seeing this as an opportunity to dress up, the woman wore a simple silk gown, the plum material wrapping delicately around the curves of her body. Hijikata wasn't the type to be affected by what she wore, and so flashing her cleavage could sometimes take the fun right out of it. Simple appeared to be the way to go. Unhindered by all else.

She took a seat on the edge of his cot.

"Are you all right?" While Yuuko's tone was serious, there still remained an unseen lilt to her words.

Oh goddamnit, she was coming closer. Even with his back turned, he could hear those infernal bells ringing in the silence of the infirmary. Why couldn't she just actually leave him alone for once?

Keeping his gaze stubbornly plastered towards the empty bed he was facing towards, Hijikata made a thankful note that his pocket watch was in the bedside drawer (he had been in his uniform when he was inducted here) and kept his voice flat while he responded. "Would I even be stuck here if I was?"

Seriously, why couldn't she just leave him alone? He was already starting to feel that familiar sense of dread and annoyance that came whenever she was around him.

Though the younger man had been in rough shape when he had come to visit Ukitake a few days previous, Jyuushirou hadn't expected their situations to be reversed quite this quickly. He took a seat by Toushirou's bed, and put the box of pastries he'd bought out in the city on the bedside table. It looked like the younger man was resting, but he was content to sit and wait until he woke up. "Shirou-kun, you really are an idiot," he murmured to himself, shaking his head slightly.

"...s'Hijikata," came the murmur from said younger man as he opened one eye to look at the elder. Hijikata hadn't really been sleeping - he was more of less dozing being he had nothing else better to do and also because people would actually leave him alone if he pretended to be asleep. Of course, there would be exceptions. Like Ukitake.

Noticing that Chi wasn't with him (she must have slipped away to somewhere earlier when he hadn't noticed), the boatswain pushed himself to sit up on his bed, one hand rubbing out whatever sand that was in his eyes before he looked at the other with an annoyed frown. "What're you doing here?" He had just recovered, damnit, he shouldn't be in here again!

Ukitake hid a small smile at Hijikata's grumpy, half-awake protest. He couldn't be in too bad shape if he had the wits to complain about his childhood nickname. "I came to return the favor," he replied, gesturing at the box of pastries. "And to make sure you hadn't gotten yourself too badly wrecked."

Hijikata didn't respond immediately, taking a few more moments to rub out more of the sand in his eyes before looking at the man once more, frown still prominent on his features. "I already told you I don't like sweet things." The exasperation was evident in his voice, and it was pretty clear that the man was hardly amused by any of this.

Glancing away after that, he then added on in reply to the second bit. "And I already said that I won't die." Honestly, it wasn't as if something like this would stop him anytime soon. If only those doctors could release him from here...

"Hi, oniichan!"

Hwang Bu-ling and her ever-present monkey sidekick bounded into the room and climbed on top of the nightstand. They stared in unison at Hijikata's condition, and Bu-ling had to stop her monkey from poking at the bandages, although she clearly wanted to try it herself.

mayovice June 15 2010, 03:40:42 UTC
...oh, it was the monkey girl.

Hijikata made no move to try and protest, knowing very well it was next to useless. At least the girl had some common sense in her for once. He knew he was quite the sight, wrapped up in bandages and gauzes almost everywhere from all the injuries he had accumulated in his days spent outside bashing up people. Still, it wasn't anything worth keeling over anytime soon.

Making a grunt (and wishing he had a cigarette with him; damned doctors took it away when he was admitted here), the man simply turned to look at the duo. "Shouldn't you two be working?" It was the afternoon after all, and like it or not they were still in Solare on their mission or something. Not that he could do anything anyway, in his military capacity.

"Bu-ling works lots." She frowned as her monkey climbed up on top of her head. "Bu-ling wanted to go see if you were gonna get better soon, Hijikata-oniichan. What happened? Did a carriage run over you?"

Reply

mayovice June 15 2010, 04:26:10 UTC
There are hardly any carriages in this place, if any at all, the man thought privately to himself, but made no outside comment other than a snort. Having lived here for a good while, Hijikata was knowledgeable enough about most of the city to know what would go on around here. Driving a carriage here was almost tantamount to suicide unless you were in the military - any one who was rich here would be murdered and/or robbed within minutes of stepping in this forsaken place.

That aside, the boatswain shifted himself to settle more comfortably on the bed, grunting while he replied with a rather blatant lie. "I tripped and fell."

Right after he gets his ass dragged to the infirmary chasingwombats June 15 2010, 06:13:29 UTC
Things just weren't going well for Chase. First there was Ukitake, then the incident with the Count where he was mistakenly lead to believe he was helping out at a soup kitchen and to top it all off there was this idiot. Sure the injuries weren't life-threatening, but they had the potential to get infected if they weren't already.

However he was not one for confrontations, so instead of berating the man the bandages were a tad too tight and he was perhaps a a bit rougher than usual when he administered that shot of antibiotics. Outwardly he looked and acted the same as always. He had a lot of practice in hiding his emotions after all.

Oh Chase you poor thing. mayovice June 15 2010, 08:31:24 UTC
Rough handling was something Hijikata was quite used to, for better or for worse. Still, it didn't quite stop Hijikata from being a bit annoyed at the tight bandages (which had replaced the not-very-professional ones he had done on himself) and the not-too kind shot that made him wince in pain just slightly. What the hell was this guy's idea? ...alright, so he supposed he was partly to blame for all of this, but still. Goddamnit, it did hurt.

Still, he pointedly kept his silence, keeping his mouth shut as the doctor continued to tend to his wounds. The flu was really making his head dizzy. "...how long do I need to stay in here?"

Chase paused. To be honest, if it were anyone else he would have let them go and just told them to get some rest. But it was very clear that he was incapable of looking after himself.

"About a week." Minimum was left unsaid. If the lieutenant didn't like that, well Chase could always pull rank or there were those body restraints...

A week.

A week?!

What the hell was this guy thinking?! Sure, he had expected maybe a few days or something, but a week?! That was just ridiculous! Hijikata made a move to try and protest, but was stopped when a surge of pain crossed his head and the man hissed as he pressed a palm gingerly on his forehead, rubbing at the spot where it was throbbing inside gently as one eye flickered to look at the doctor.

"Can't it be any shorter?" Because staying for a whole week here was hardly looking good in anyway.

Recently, it seemed as if Komamura was spending much of his time in the infirmary. The Lieutenant Commander had at last been dismissed by the doctors. However, he had heard a rumor that Lieutenant Hijikata was now being treated there. The demihuman was not as friendly with Hijikata as the Lieutenant Commander, but they had spoken on numerous occasions--if only briefly. In any case, he felt somewhat obligated.

Furthermore, he was not exactly sure what was supposedly ailing the man. Hijikata hardly seemed the sickly type.

"Lieutenant," he announced when he found where the man was resting. He was faintly surprised to see what were unmistakably treatments for physical injuries.

There was really only so much he could do while he was stuck in bed, and his lack of social niceties hardly made things any easier for him. But still, Komamura's appearance was one of the things that Hijikata could bring himself to appreciate, and it showed on his face as the boatswain perked up from what he had been doing (brooding over something, since he really had nothing else to do) and blinked at the demihuman.

"...Komamura," he started after a pause, and then inclined his head in greeting. He knew he looked a bit as of he had just been run over with a carriage or something, what with all the bandages and gauzes that were plastered onto him. But they were all nothing major, though a few of them did cause him to wince and hiss a little as he shifted to look just slightly more presentable.

Movement looked painful. What little movement could be accomplished, wrapped up as he was. Komamura's eyes narrowed. Needless to say, he had been expecting something far less serious looking than these wounds seemed to be. He shifted to stand near the foot of the bed, somewhere that would be within an easy line of sight.

"What happened to you?" he asked bluntly.

A grunt came from Hijikata as he leaned back further onto the pillow propped up behind him, one hand idly fiddling with the cover of another pillow on his lap as he finally replied. "I tripped and fell and got run over by a carriage."

As much as he appreciated the furry demihuman, the man still wasn't going to just talk about what he was doing so easily.
