First Day gokigen June 16 2010, 10:16:31 UTC
When the doctors and other came to move Hijikata to the infirmary, Chi had hid under the bed, fur fluffed up and scared out of her wits. But once things calmed down it didn't take her long to find him.

He still had the sick-smell, but the blood was mostly gone, so she assumed he wasn't dying anymore, to her intense relief, and she quickly jumped up beside him, curling up and purring.

A bit after the doctor was finally gone, Hijikata had taken to glaring at the walls and the nearby (blissfully empty) beds in order to vent out his frustrations over being stuck in this damned place for a whole fucking week. Goddamnit, surely his condition didn't have to merit him a whole week here! Even if whatever the doctor had said was true (which he doubted actually was)... he was still stuck here regardless, whether if he liked it or not.

Just then, a familiar flash of grey and white caught his eye, bringing him out of his spiral of irritation and before he knew it, Chi was right at his side, curled up and purring up a storm. Hijikata gave a soft sigh as he moved the hand closest to her, fingers stroking her back and running up to scratch behind her ears gently. Try as he might it was starting to get damnably hard to be annoyed at the feline even with the mood he had been in.

"The doctors won't be too pleased to see you in here, you know," he murmured, just loud enough for the kitten to hear.

She leaned up, trying to whisper as well. "I'm small, they can't see me!" And on that note she burrowed under the blanket, wriggling around in the warmth. "Toshirou's bed is better then this." She grumped, getting comfy regardless.

All Hijikata did was to snort lightly, moving his hand along with her so that he was still petting her even through her wriggling - Chi proved to be a good distraction at times when he got irritated enough, which was probably a good thing. He would be pretty snappish otherwise.

"Its just a week, so put up with it." Words for the wise, and ones that he really needed to heed himself. But that could be left for later. The man continued to stroke her even after she had settled down, quietly relishing in the warmth that her small body gave under his hand. It was strange how even after a year she still seemed so small... but he never really paid much attention to that anyway.

Edgeworth was not pleased.

He knew Hijikata needed bedrest. He knew that he needed time to heal. However, Edgeworth didn't care. Just what did he think he was doing, getting into street fights like ...like some thug! It was disgraceful! It was idiotic! And what did it get him? It gave him a trip to the infirmary, that's what!

He stormed through the corridors and through the room, until he found Hijikata's bed. Edgeworth glared down at him, and in an icy tone, said, "Hello, Lieutenant."

Up until now, things had been generally alright, save for the few annoyances (Komamura and Ukitake excluded) that had come to see him while he was stuck in bed. They weren't so terribly annoying, and usually they did have to leave eventually so he had his own share of peace and quiet save for when Chi and/or Luiced came around after they were done with their things around the ship (or whatever it was those two were doing, he really never took notice). Aside from the fact that he was going to be stuck here for the whole week, things were okay, at least.

But then always and ever, that 'okay' had to be downgraded right to 'annoying as hell' the moment Hijikata spotted that obnoxious pink entering the room and heading towards him. Hijikata was only glad that his pets weren't around when the bastard was here, or things might have been harder around them. As it was, all that the younger boatswain did was to stay perfectly still even as everything inside him wanted to do nothing more than to punch the asshole in his face again - that one ( ... )

"That's no way to speak to one of your superiors," he snapped coldly. He took another step forward, and continued, "Unless you wish to remain in this hospital room for any longer, I suggest you learn some respect."

Edgeworth paused for a moment to look down on him, and said, "Now, tell me, what happened to you in the city?"

Had it been anyone else, Hijikata might have been respectful enough at this point of time. But the fact that it was Edgeworth only had the swordsman do nothing else both seethe and glower at the silver-haired bastard before him. Try as he might, it was impossible to put behind everything he had against the frilly asshole - everything that had happened in that last half a decade. Five years wasn't a short time to talk about - it was long, long for a time on a single ship. And now, with all of those times gone...

Not that this was the time to think about it now.

Keeping his glare fixed on Edgeworth, the samurai's voice was tight and controlled as he responded to the other in one of the bluntest ways ever possible. "None of your business." It had never been his business anyway, even when he had just left like that without a care in the world.

AND LATER INTO THE NIGHT-- mayovice July 14 2010, 15:49:13 UTC
It had been hard enough to finally fall asleep after everything that happened earlier, but it was even harder to wake up as dreams and nightmares came floating to him as he slept, all of them equally unpleasant and unwanted. With the state of mind he was in, it had been hard to recall exactly what had gone on - all he could feel was the pain and that churning in his gut that just made him want to throw up everything inside him ( ... )

"Yes."

And Roy had been there for a few hours now - he had stolen in after finishing his dinner and going for a good, long shower, bringing his paperwork and alchemy notes with him. The quartermaster had decided to do his work in the area, for reasons that he wasn't about to admit out loud to anyone. He glanced over at his brother, studying the other intently.

"Here to annoy you, as per usual."

The words certainly didn't match the delivery, nor the serious expression on Roy's face.

Hijikata had to try and not keep wincing as he heard Mustang talking, the pain in his head not helping a lot with matters at hand. Still, at least he did manage to digest whatever the alchemist had said, and grunted lightly in return.

"You're doing a fine job of it then," he replied, though the usual bite in his voice was mostly gone due to his illness. There was a pause after that, and then the swordsman spoke up again. "...what time is it?"

"Too late for either of us to be up."

Roy's response was a low murmur as the alchemist turned away, dropping what he had been reading in favor of the basin full of cool water on the opposite side. He took one of the towels, soaked it, and leaned in, promptly plopping it on Hijikata's forehead.

"They say you're getting better. You likely don't feel that way, but I'll take their word for it."
