The rumble of the engine, the vibration through his body from the seat beneath him, were of little comfort to Yami, much less than they normally were. His mind and heart were too full and worried, making the Shadows - currently invisible wisps of faint energy - writhe restlessly as they curled about his slim frame. A crewmate had gone missing, her state of body and especially mind unknown as of yet (strictly speaking). No, technically, she was not his responsibility, not really . . . but she was a part of an organization to which he belonged and, while he held no position of higher importance in this one, he'd spent far too many years - most of his young life - responsible for too many others not to feel now that he had to do something. Nena was a cremmate and a person in need. That was enough for him ( ... )

This wouldn't be the first time Justin got called an idiot for his persistent attempts to help others even when he had no business doing so. He was used to it. Oh, he knew he was being stupid - more so now than any time in the past, quite possibly - but there was nothing he could do about it. Without doing his own psychological structure major damage, at least. He would know. He'd spent half his life learning what you could do to people's minds without breaking them. And how you could help them afterwards.

Which was exactly what made this a particularly tough situation. He was a trained psych-surgeon, and that made him wanted by Reseune, where he run away from, and no doubt equally wanted by the Ivonan government (or any other serious military organization, dammit) once they found out who he was. Even ignoring the problem of attempting any real treatment without equipment, drugs and trained support, trying to do anything was likely to uncover his identity for anyone who knew what to look for. And the more he learned about Ivona, ( ... )

s-sorry for the slowness doctor_is_out January 6 2010, 04:12:59 UTC
"That's correct. Unless there are two planes in this kind of place, it must be hers," Ryuuken said. Though he wore glasses for nearsightedness, his farsight (and sense for spiritual pressure) was acute. He had a bag of emergency medical supplies at his feet.

He braced for the landing. He wasn't concerned about it, since he could take a great deal of damage, but Ryuuken wasn't as young as he used to be, and a sore back was irritating.

It's fine! pink_is_best January 6 2010, 11:05:51 UTC
The sound of the approaching plane was faint, at first. So faint that Nena couldn’t help but wonder if it was simply her mind playing tricks on her. But the noise didn’t go away, it only grew… And when she twisted her head in its direction, there was clearly a plane in sky. From the current distance, she wasn’t able to recognise if it was one of the Silvana’s or not, but it seemed to be drawing nearer towards her, so… well, it was likely. She didn’t make any moves to stand up and signal them, though. She wasn’t sure if she could manage it, and since she was under the only plane in the small area, it could hardly be missed.

My turn for slow... flyfrommyself January 7 2010, 14:09:54 UTC
Yami glanced sharply at the doctor but decided to let it go. He'd not been able to tell for sure that it was indeed a plane and not something else entirely, but if the doctor's sight was sharp enough to make that out, he might not have realized it was better than normal, better than Yami's. No matter.

Yami gripped the steering yoke, forced to wrestle with it to keep the plane steady for much of the descent. As warned, the landing was bumpy but not overly rough, for which Yami was thankful. He didn't need to be dealing with damaged landing gear or the like, especially not out in No Man's Land like this. He doubted Captain Rowe would appreciate Yami cannibalizing one of the Silvana's planes for repairs to his own. It was exceedingly cold out here so, while everyone dressed for the chill, he taxied The Duelist from the landing spot to much closer to the other plane. As he drew closer, he spotted something in the shade underneath it ( ... )

The landing wasn't too bad. Justin was struggling with a (borrowed) jacket the moment they were stable on the ground, and running toward the other plane as soon as Yami started braking.

He crouched down on the cold ground next to the girl, one arm braced against the plane, a little out of breath. (damn, it was cold!) "Nena? Are you all right?" Well, that was a stupid question, but it tended to do its job anyway. He just wanted a response, any response indicating she was alive, conscious, and hopefully aware of what was happening around her.

She looked starved and half-frozen, but that wasn't really his area of competence, so he waited for the doctor to decide what to do next, and concentrated on making sure the girl knew who they were and why they were here. "I'm Justin. Remember?"

Ryuuken took his bag in one hand and vaulted over the side of the plane, landing lightly on the ground. He followed Justin at a brisk walk, the cold tugging at his white overcoat. It was warm, but the weather was colder ( ... )
