Toph would admit it: as soon as she heard that Shinjiro was back in the kitchen, she made an effort to go bother him. Then again, with those smells coming from the kitchen, maybe she'd just eat.

"Hey, Cookie!" she called, stomping in and climbing up into a barstool. The floor bent up to keep her feet touching it. "What's up?"

"Shinjiro." He hissed, not even bothering to look up. Toph coming to bother him was expected, and her hanging around the kitchen didn't even really bother him anymore. Well.... not as much anyways.

"Don't you have anything better to do kid?"

"Nope." What, it was true. She rarely had anything to do at all! "Whatcha making? Smells good, whatever it is."

"Potato pancakes, if you have to know." He replied, hunching over the frying pan and flipping the cake. It hissed and fizzled, the starchy smell filling the kitchen and mixing with the sweet smells of the other dishes. Shinji DID have a weakness for sweets after all. A well hidden one.

Demyx was a little freaked out, hearing the clanking and clattering sounds coming from the kitchen. He had heard from the captain that the ghost was gone, but those sounds still set him off the edge. So much, that the young man hung to the side of the hall, the wall being almost like a security blanket.

He shook his head. No. He wouldn't be scared. The captain said the ghost was gone, so that was it. No more floating objects out to kill him. That was before the heavenly aroma of food came to his nostrils. His eyelids fell halfway and his face became dazed. Slowly his back pried itself away from the wall, and his feet walked towards the scent of cooking food.

The cabin boy peeked his head inside and his smiled widened. Yes, he didn't have to make his own food! Even better, especially after this whole ghost situation. He had to survive on what bread or anything he could find. That was hard enough work as it was. But this was just easy! His smile widened at the sight of all the dishes set out and slowly stepped inside, looking at all ( ... )

There were interesting - deliciously interesting - smells, and equally interesting noises, coming from the direction of the kitchen.
From several corridors away, the Dog pricked up her ears, sniffed at the air, and turned to trot down a passage that would take her past the kitchens.

It was a perfectly legitimate route to take. The fact she was passing the kitchen door didn't necessarily mean she was raiding the kitchen, did it?

And, look, there was already someone in there (besides Shinjiro, who didn't count, being someone who was actively supposed to be in the kitchen). So it must be acceptable, right?
Nonetheless, she glanced around furtively as she padded into the kitchen, before giving up on surreptitiousness and jumping up onto her hind legs at the table beside Demyx, sticking her nose in the nearest dish.

Shinjiro heard Demyx enter, but ignored him at first. There was no point chasing people out, they'd just come back. And someone had to eat all this food after all. Instead he kept working away, tightening the bandanna around his messy brown hair once and awhile to keep the sweat from his eyes.

It was when Dog came in that he finally turned around, a stew bubbling away and not needing his attentions for a few minutes. He walked over, reaching over to scratch behind a ear as she ate before looking at the cabin boy. He didn't even know Demyx's name, but seeing as he had been banished to his quarters for the last few weeks, it was understandable.

"It's not going to run away." he grunted, looking at how frantically the other man was digging into the food.

Demyx perked up, seeing the dog walk in. He smiled at her with the fork in his mouth and was almost tempted to pet her head. But! He had delicious food in his other hand, and he didn't want dog fur in his food. She was adorable though and well, the food was good too.

The cabin boy paused though and looked back up at the cook, pulling the fork out of his mouth. "O-Oh I know! I just haven't had anything good to eat in a while and this food smelled amazing!" Demyx said as he snuck another bite into his mouth before swallowing it with a grin. "It's really good! You cooking for the whole ship?" He asked, looking around at all the dishes.

Okay, so Hikari had to admit, the break was nice. It felt good to be able to sit down without having to worry about pots boiling over or meat burning or poltergeists tossing knives at her head (alright, that last one just a one time thing, but still.) She finally got a chance to let the near-constant ache in her legs (and her arms, and her shoulders, and heck even her wings how did that even work) to subside, and right now, she wanted nothing more than to take a nice, long, hot shower and sleep for years.

She settled for a quick shower and a short nap. She-she couldn't just sit around and do nothing! Even if Shinjiro said he was better, Hikari didn't quite believe it. He was just going to strain himself, she knew it, and besides, even if he was perfectly healthy (he wasn't) the kitchen wasn't a one-person job by any means. He needed help, whether he liked it or not ( ... )

"Hn." as all he replied with, but Hikari had worked with him long enough to probably expect as much. When they DID work together he never talked much except for a rare barked order, and simply expected her to follow his lead.

The fruit and sweet smells were mixing with the meats and breads in a mass that would be more like a Long Night feast then any normal meal. Between his injury, the deaths of the bandits, and the 4th... it was obvious through his frantic work that something was wrong, at least to anyone who had worked around him for anytime.

Hikari didn't think much about the short greeting; it was just Shinjiro being ...well, Shinjiro. It didn't mean anything, it was simply how he was.

She was, however, worried about the food. It was nice, and all, really, but it was a bit much even for Shinjiro. There wasn't a need for this much food, even if he was experimenting, and she couldn't help but think who's going to eat all of this? It was clear that something was wrong, but she couldn't tell exactly what...was it one specific thing, or a little bit of everything lately?

"Here," she said, as she stepped forward. "Do you need a hand?"

He looked up finally, looking almost surprised by the offer. His gaze softened a tiny bit before he went back to his work, hair falling out of his cooking bandanna a little and into his face as he scraped at a pan.

"...won't stop you."

It'd been a long day cleaning up, and Hinamori was feeling pretty hungry. She also needed to get tea somewhere, and the kitchen was as good a place as any, so-

...what were those noises? The ghost was gone, of course, but...

She cautiously approached the door, peeked her head in, and... oh. Yes. It was just the cook.

With that, she stepped inside.

"Hello there!"

"Eh?" He muttered, looking up. He stared for a few long moments, trying to place the woman's face. It finally clicked and he nodded. "Hinamori." He offered as a greeting, going back to work.

"There's food if you want it."

Ah... she really hadn't been here often, had she? This was kind of... awkward.

"Mm," said Hinamori with a nod. "Thank you. Do you mind if I make tea, too?"

He was used to awkward. he could deal with awkward. What little he knew of Hinamori told him he didn't really have anything to worry about with her. He jerked his head towards the cabinets.

"The leaves are up there." That said, he moved towards the other cabinet, pulling down a kettle and starting to fill it with water.
