Demyx was a little freaked out, hearing the clanking and clattering sounds coming from the kitchen. He had heard from the captain that the ghost was gone, but those sounds still set him off the edge. So much, that the young man hung to the side of the hall, the wall being almost like a security blanket.

He shook his head. No. He wouldn't be scared. The captain said the ghost was gone, so that was it. No more floating objects out to kill him. That was before the heavenly aroma of food came to his nostrils. His eyelids fell halfway and his face became dazed. Slowly his back pried itself away from the wall, and his feet walked towards the scent of cooking food.

The cabin boy peeked his head inside and his smiled widened. Yes, he didn't have to make his own food! Even better, especially after this whole ghost situation. He had to survive on what bread or anything he could find. That was hard enough work as it was. But this was just easy! His smile widened at the sight of all the dishes set out and slowly stepped inside, looking at all ( ... )

There were interesting - deliciously interesting - smells, and equally interesting noises, coming from the direction of the kitchen.
From several corridors away, the Dog pricked up her ears, sniffed at the air, and turned to trot down a passage that would take her past the kitchens.

It was a perfectly legitimate route to take. The fact she was passing the kitchen door didn't necessarily mean she was raiding the kitchen, did it?

And, look, there was already someone in there (besides Shinjiro, who didn't count, being someone who was actively supposed to be in the kitchen). So it must be acceptable, right?
Nonetheless, she glanced around furtively as she padded into the kitchen, before giving up on surreptitiousness and jumping up onto her hind legs at the table beside Demyx, sticking her nose in the nearest dish.

Shinjiro heard Demyx enter, but ignored him at first. There was no point chasing people out, they'd just come back. And someone had to eat all this food after all. Instead he kept working away, tightening the bandanna around his messy brown hair once and awhile to keep the sweat from his eyes.

It was when Dog came in that he finally turned around, a stew bubbling away and not needing his attentions for a few minutes. He walked over, reaching over to scratch behind a ear as she ate before looking at the cabin boy. He didn't even know Demyx's name, but seeing as he had been banished to his quarters for the last few weeks, it was understandable.

"It's not going to run away." he grunted, looking at how frantically the other man was digging into the food.

Demyx perked up, seeing the dog walk in. He smiled at her with the fork in his mouth and was almost tempted to pet her head. But! He had delicious food in his other hand, and he didn't want dog fur in his food. She was adorable though and well, the food was good too.

The cabin boy paused though and looked back up at the cook, pulling the fork out of his mouth. "O-Oh I know! I just haven't had anything good to eat in a while and this food smelled amazing!" Demyx said as he snuck another bite into his mouth before swallowing it with a grin. "It's really good! You cooking for the whole ship?" He asked, looking around at all the dishes.

The Dog wagged her tail enthusiastically at Shinjiro's scratching. She still couldn't quite get over the ease with which she could get free food on this ship.
She nodded in agreement with Demyx's comment, agreeing through a mouthful of food: "'s pretty good, even for your cooking." She couldn't remember Shinjiro ever making something not-nice, but today seemed to be a particularly good day. And there was so much of it, too!

"Tch it's just food. Eat whatever you want though. But if you choke and die it's not my fault." He smirked as he spoke, moving over to see what Demyx was shoveling away. it was good to know people appreciated what you did... though it was a feeling Shinji still wasn't 100% used to. He gave the Dog a slightly softer smile then Demyx. He could never turn away a hungry dog.

"Eh, sorta. Gave Hikari a few days off."

Demyx swallowed his mouthful of what looked to be rice and looked down at the dog. He stared at her for a few more long minutes before coughed up some of the rice that seemed to suddenly lodge itself inside his dry throat. He rapped a fist on his chest a few times... not really knowing that he was really letting his rice and spit fly over some of the food. But he was choking, it was a life or death situation!

After coughing a few more times, he set down his dish and looked to the dog. "D-Did... did that dog just talk? O-Or was it just me?" He looked up at Shinjiro almost for some kind of agreement before he stared back down at the dog, his eyebrows furrowed and his face pale.

The Dog stopped chewing and blinked at Demyx in a mixture of amusement and mild concern as he choked. "What did he just say about choking and dying?"

Alright, apparently it was her rather than Shinjiro who's fault it would be in any case, not that she was going to accept any blame for it. "And indeed I did," she said drily, once he seemed to have calmed down a little. "Is that a problem?"

Shinjiro snickered at that, shrugging before patting the Dog's head again. He had been pretty shocked himself when he had first seen her talk, but he got over it... but watching others do the same was worth it.

"Yeah, the Dog can talk. It's getting her to stop that's the issue." He replied, the capitalization of "Dog" evident in his voice.

He cleared his throat, making sure there wasn't any more rice in his throat. the mullet-headed boy kneeled down next to the Dog and smiled slightly. He wasn't as scared as he was just moments ago. This was something new but.. he shouldn't be so scared about it. She wasn't biting or barking at him, so she must have been nice!

He grinned slightly and reached a hand out to pet the Dog and chuckled at his own reaction at the talking Dog. "O-Oh I'm sorry then Dog! I didn't mean to offend you. It's just I'm not so used to talking animals where I used to live." Then again, it wasn't everyday that he saw sky sharks and whales and other flying animals. Those didn't talk though. If they did well, Demyx would be a bit more hesitant to actually talk to them, let alone pet them.

"Why would you want me to stop?" she asked, cocking her head on one side as she looked up at Shinjiro, grinning teasingly.

Turning her attention back to Demyx as the boy started petting her, she gave her tail a friendly wag - the kid seemed nice enough, even if she was starting to suspect he might be a few sandwiches short of a picnic. "Well, talking animals aren't entirely ubiquitous," she agreed, with a slight not of smugness - it wouldn't be nearly as much fun being a talking dog if you didn't get to be somewhat special, after all.
