IS THAT A CHI I SEE THAR. :D thedevilsmile October 19 2009, 12:38:20 UTC
Kristoph happened to be in said cafeteria at the moment when the other decided to make himself visible to the world once more. Work, of course, had been as hectic as usual - nothing as compared to the troubles of being a real captain, but it certainly was enough to be quite the annoyance. And for a ship like the Victoria II, the load was only all the more weary upon anyone's shoulders. The blonde supposed he should consider himself lucky over the fact that he had made himself quite used to such a tedious task, even if it was something he detested - anyone else who had to face such a workload might have found him or herself slowly collapsing under such a monstrous job ( ... )

The food was... just as he remembered it. Granted, it was not altogether fair to compare the Victoria II's cooks with master chefs catering parties in Bellcius - especially not within earshot of said cooks - but here there was always the constant question of if this was the day his food was going to rebel and storm off of his plate ( ... )

KRISTOPH MISSED HIS PLOTTING UNDERLING. 8D thedevilsmile October 20 2009, 09:02:16 UTC
The blonde's smile widened just a fraction when the other responded to his call - it was always a pleasant event when such like-minded people could meet each other so easily. Of course, Kristoph didn't know just exactly how much the lieutenant could accomplish given his skill and whatever merits he had, but from what he had seen from the younger officer in the few times they had met, the quartermaster was confident enough to say that Yagami Light had quite the future ahead of him. That was, if the brunette were to play his cards right.

If he could, then that would be fine. If not... then well, someone obviously was going to have to teach the younger man the tricks of the trade.

The smile remained on his lips even as the other approached him, his head inclined ever so slightly to indicate his own approval while responding to the inquiry. "Certainly, of course. This is a free nation, after all." There was no venom in his voice, no slight hint of disdain or sarcasm - if anything, all Light could hear was the quiet amusement of a man ( ... )

LIGHT MISSED PLOTTING EVERYONE'S DEMISE. >:3 perfect_justice October 20 2009, 20:53:42 UTC
Returning the nod with his thanks, Light sat down at the table. "And we are blessed to live with such freedom." It was child's play for him to match the other man's tone, although it was not as simple to place the smallest amount of himself into it as well. He did not wish to appear insolent or unable to think for himself, after all. If anything, he respected the quartermaster and his intelligence enough to allow him a glimpse of his true potential in return. As a strategist, it had saved him years of self-study in the past by feeding from the knowledge of others and expanding it even further. This man, he was sure, had a great deal of enjoyable lessons lessons to offer.

Indeed, as his eyes casually flickered over to the quartermaster's book, Light had no doubt that the fruits of their conversation would be - as it had been before - quite sweet and satisfying.

"You look well, sir." The youth gingerly poked his food with a fork. "One might say in spite of such culinary inconsistencies."

von Karma did not personally enjoy visiting the mess hall himself, but he was in dire need of a BLT sandwich to get himself through the latest mission. At least he wasn't required to interact with the prince, but...

Well, he wasn't going to dwell on it. He was going to get his sandwich, go back to the bridge, and ask Edgeworth for some tea.

Of course, he was going to have to wait for the sandwich, so he sat down at one of the tables and irritably tapped his fingers on the table.

Normally, interrupting or even interacting with the Admiral was not good for a soldier's health. In fact, many notable physicians would claim quite the opposite. Were it purely up to survival instincts, Light would have run from the cafeteria, plate in or not in hand, and sequestered himself back in his quarters under the semi-truthful excuse of needing to unpack. Not, of course, that the young man would ever allow himself to display such cowardice in public.

Besides, he could not be that bad. Right?Dark eyes briefly considered his position. On the one hand, he found it highly amusing that the staff had foisted the captain's lunch on him to deliver, and on the other hand he wondered if there was a legitimate reason for their trepidation. With a shrug, he continued on his path; he had already agreed, and he would be damned if he was going to show any weakness now. The two of them had not formally met except on the rare occasion that papers or errands were needed and the young man was honestly curious as to the true nature of ( ... )

von Karma blinked at the young man hawkishly. He wasn't one of the kitchen staff, was he? Actually, von Karma could only vaguely remember him, which was going to annoy him for the rest of the day. Of course, it was entirely possible that he wasn't important enough to be remembered.

"Ah, yes," he said, taking the sandwich from-...had the young man washed his hands before touching von Karma's plate? Certainly, it wasn't anywhere near the actual food, but one could never be too careful.

...and no, it was still bothering him. This annoyed von Karma even more, as he couldn't remember anything important about the young man.

"Who are you, exactly?"

In many ways, Light was not surprised by the question. His annoyance masked beneath another kind smile. Yes, he had been absent for a few months on leave, but he had hoped he was not that forgettable as an officer. However, his self-preservation was still very much intact and they kept any rebellious thoughts under strict lock and key. A misstep now would take away years of careful planning that he could not afford to rebuild.

"Lieutenant Yagami Light, sir." Hand now free, he managed a crisp salute. "Just returned from leave."

What was the captain doing down here, anyway? Although the military promoted self-sufficiency, it was rare not to give their leader at least a few comforts that were within their power to provide. Food service, for instance.

Cafeterias throughout Ivonan military properties were all essentially the same: useful ways to meet people, but everything else was forgettable. Vaunted reputation or no, it didn't seem like the Victoria II was any exception. Milady de Winter lounged at a table that afforded her a view of the door, long-lashed blue eyes scanning all arrivals through a veneer of feigned boredom.

Well. Maybe not entirely feigned? As far as she could tell, the Victoria II was crewed mostly by people teetering on the edges of civility (or sanity), but that wasn't half as interesting as the possibility of things she could use, was it? Only it seemed there was a scarcity of that sort of usefulness, here of all places. Perhaps he'd placed her here to mock her?

Typical.

Yet if he had, it could not be allowed to last, could it? Certainly not ( ... )

The one thing that the strategist would never allow the Victoria's cooks to touch was his tea. One pot of water - just under boiling - was set carefully on his tray beside his meal. The dried herbs themselves were from his own stash; a small luxury that he had and would continue to allow himself aboard this ship. At least, this time it had been far easier to replenish his stores. Tea made wonderful padding for packing delicate belongings, after all.

Of course, the young man had been planning to indulge himself and sip through the entire pot himself while reading reports in his office. That thought, however, was put on hold the moment he spotted her idling in the mess hall. He recognized her from the few days she had been aboard before his leave, and for a man just returned from the wealth and privilege of home, he could easily recognize the same nostalgic symptoms in every slow batting of the woman's full lashes ( ... )

With the decommission of his fellow co-workers, Lelouch inevitably found himself with an increased helping of work in the kitchens. While he wouldn't quite complain, it certainly placed a slight hamper on his plans. Yet, even then, he couldn't really consider it an inconvenience, especially when it simply required a light modification in his agenda. If everything crumbled from a mere shift in his surrounding conditions, his endeavors would eventually result with a dead end. After all, similar to the elasticity in a country's economy, he found flexibility a great deal more preferable to the contrary ( ... )
