Raising a hand to stave off the glare of the afternoon sun, Light studied the impromptu hangar. Per the captain's orders, everything had to be perfect. Some workers still bustled back and forth, getting things ready for the big race. He had not seen the pilots yet, but assumed they would likely return to check on their planes before his shift was done. In the background he could hear the din of men's voices as they placed their bets mixed with the excited cries of children and tourists alike

Noting the makeshift hangar that was constructed just next to the ship, Near took a look at the planes that would be representing the Victoria II. To his disappointment, only one of the three pilots were audience favorites. The name Leo de Alkirk was familiar. Perhaps he had heard the name over the network, on one of those rather irritable public posts that people seemed to enjoy making.
The boy looked around the hangar area and did not see any barrier that barred him from entering the storage area. There did not seem to be many guards around the area either.
'What shoddy security for a military vessel,' he thought to himself, as he closed his journal and walked towards the first plane he could see.
