Now, really, Ryohei had to wonder about the teamwork of this ship more and more since the chase with those pirates. The gunners were not helpful at all! And now no one really seemed to believe him about the tea and the tea cakes, except Arietta. Though he didn't really like the idea of her helping and possibly being devoured by the yeast monsters he'd made, it seemed the only option he had at the moment ( ... )

Well, damn. Not as planned. And, for once, the cook had raised a decent point.

...besides, in the midst of giving out orders, the dough had encroached upon von Karma's shoes, leaving him pretty much stuck there unless he wanted to sacrifice most of his dignity while trying to get out.

"Fine, stop the torching," he commanded. "There is another way to deal with this, although it would involve one of us going through the kitchen to the freezer. I don't suppose any of you want to volunteer?"

Arietta didn't protest as she was moved yet again though that scowl seemed to have taken a permanent residence on her face. It was better than being back in the dough, probably, though she didn't like this guy as much as Ryohei. But he didn't have sunglasses and dreadlocks (she still didn't know what those were) so he couldn't be that bad. Otherwise Sync would have warned her.

But Arietta could tell already that she didn't like this captain guy. Even while she was being passed around she didn't miss the part where he had said to torch the monster while it was still eating Ryohei. Yeah, this guy was definitely bad. So Arietta would definitely not be volunteering, even if it would help all of them. Besides, she was currently being held, so that put her in no position to do anything. She was the one who was supposed to save Ryohei!

Ffamran shut down the torch again, feeling slightly nauseous from the stench of burnt tea, bread and something else completely unpleasant, possibly his shoe leather.

He glared at the pile of dough and pulled off his vest, he was *not* going to ruin another vest in some half-baked attempt to save the ship on Ryohei's shoulders.

"I assume you are talking about the propensity of yeast to die at low temperatures, sir?" He already knew the answer, of course, and fire hadn't worked, he kept the blowtorch in one hand as a counterbalance and last resort and plowed into the dough.

"Besides, the leading man never dies."

Sawaki nodded at Kiros, recognizing him only from his voice. "I need your help, Mr. Seagill. There are anti-brewing bacteria in the sick bay. They're the green jar with a sponge inside, in the wooden cabinet to the left of the entrance. Please, run and get them then drop the sponge in the doorway.

Then came the resounding growl of the captain, asking for volunteers.

He spun and saluted in what he hoped was the captain's direction. "I'll go, sir." If there was anyone more qualified to dealing with a horde of Oryzae rapidly brewing, he couldn't think of them.

"Ah?"

The leading man? What was Bunansa talking about? The little quote was quite heroic and completely fit in well with the navigators dash through the dough monster! Hopefully the other could get to the freezer without being suffocated by that thing! It would be a shame to lose someone here on the Victoria because of a mere cooking accident...

"Go go go!" Kiros cheered him on for a moment before Sawaki got his attention. "Anti-brewing bacteria...?" He blinked his eyes for a few times before it finally dawned on him why Sawaki was mentioning this green jar. "Since it's yeast it should be able to kill it instantly..." He thought for a moment before making a quick dash toward the sick bay.

"Alright! You folks hang tight, okay?" The mechanic said just before he head down the hall running. The fight against the nasty yeast blob was about to come to an end!

Relieved that, for once, the captain listened to him, Ryohei's grin returned. Things were looking better by the minute!

Until, of course, Ffamran dived into the gunk. Blinking after him, he considered how he was going to get stuck all over again, but it was completely lost upon him as soon as he noticed that von Karma was caught in it himself. "Sir, you're stuck! Hang on, I'll get you out!"

Not one for subtly or the preservation of dignities, Ryohei moved and stood behind him, arms ducking under his and wrapping around so he could grab his wrists. Once he was sure of his footing, he gave the captain a tight hug from behind and lifted him up.

With perhaps a little too much force than actually required, but he didn't seem to realize that. Once he had him out, he merely dropped him out of reach of the dough with Arietta. "Stay away from the dough, okay? I'll help Ffamran!"

And so, he plunged into the dough again, despite any lack of logic about getting himself re-stuck.

Adrian stared.

And stared.

And stared even longer at the cause of commotion at the kitchen and she could not find the decency to close her open mouth, still gaping at the scene in front of her. She had heard rumors about Ryoheis cooking skills but this...this was something completely unexpected. There were several other people involved in the ridiculous mess and some were stuck on what appeared to be..a blob. A big, human-devouring blob.

"Oh..oh my, is that the Captain?"

She muttered softly under her breath, as if terrified to find this scene was real and not a figment of her imagination.

This wasn't cooking, this was madness.

Arietta was now completely confused by the events. She didn't know how the freezer was going to help kill this monster. Were they going to feed it ice cubes? Maybe it didn't like that...

She didn't mind it when Ffamran went back into the mess. It would probably be ok to lose him, and that one guy was running past her now to get some... thing. She had no idea what that new boy was talking about. In her mind they were all going about it wrong anyway. That guy who wanted to burn it probably had the best idea. Most animals didn't like fire. (Though, Arietta really didn't either, so maybe it was a good thing he hadn't used it.)

She stared apathetically at von Karma as Ryohei dropped him nearby. She really didn't like this captain. At all.

Her attention was diverted, however, when Ryohei stated his intetion to go back in. "No!" she cried out suddenly, standing up. "You can't go back! It will eat you!" Just when she had found someone nice like Sync but not Sync...

Ffamran struggled, stepping over the shin-deep wad of dough that was slowly but surly growing taller. His bare feet actually facilitated the endeavor, but he was not making much headway.

He wound up, maybe only a foot or so in to the mess, stuck, dough clinging to his trousers and keeping him from moving.

"Nuts!" He turned around to the cook, who was helping von Karma. "I hope you realize you're going to be responsible for the murder of an officer by way of bread! And someone save my jacket before it gets eaten!"

Goddamn.

Sync had dashed through the halls as fast as he possibly could, hearing the commotion through at least half a dozen different voices by the time he turned the corner that led to the Kitchen. However, what he actually witnessed when he made it to the scene wasn't exactly what he expected.

Even the Admiral was there as well?! Sync just watched in disbelief as he was carried out of the mess by Ryohei, resisting the urge to smack his head before he diverted his attention back to the mess.

"Arietta!" Sync called out once he spotted her amidst everything.

After finally finding the said green jar that Sawaki told him to get, Kiros was jogging back towards the kitchen with a spare sponge he found in a nearby linen closet along the way. “Heh! Once I get them out of this, the Captain won’t yell at me!” He thought rather happily as he continued down the narrow corridor. Just as he turned the corner though, the mechanic lost his footing on a slippery puddle of goo that made its way up the hall and ended up falling right on his face ( ... )

Alright, Rolo had to see this.

He had no intention in helping anyone, as his true motive was really just to see who this "Arietta" person was. If she was someone important to Sync, then...

One track mind? Yeah, maybe.

But really, even the thought of his locket was nudged from his mind when Rolo actually came face to face with the... disaster. Disaster was a light word, because even he couldn't believe that someone was that bad at cooking. To the point where the yeast was forcing everyone out onto the hallway?

"..." Rolo just stared, completely forgetting the whole reason he came down here in the first place.

Sawaki whispered an apology to the Oryzae, who had been his only friends besides Kei for so long.

As Kiros dropped the sponge on the ground, predator microbes moved out of the sponge in fearsome red, microscopic pincers flexing. When they latched onto an Oryzae it expired, Xes replacing their "eyes". Soon there was a narrow tunnel through the cloud through which he could see a struggling Ffamran.

"Help him." He said in a low voice, kneeling and pointing to Ffamran. Sure enough, the red predators saluted and swarmed around Ffamran, chomping into the Oryzae around him. The dough became less thick and sticky in an area around him. But would it be enough? Sawaki felt a small pang of guilt. Oryzae had been his only friends besides Kei for such a long time...

Of course both Oryzae and their predators were entirely invisible to everyone else.

Turning once he got a foot into the dough again, Ryohei grinned back at Arietta with utmost confidence. "Don't worry! I'll be extremely fine as long as you are! So stay there and away from the dough!" Keeping the grin, he moved into the dough further. It only managed to widen when he got to Ffamran, and especially at his comment.

"You won't die! But get ready, so I can get you out and closer to the freezer!" Without much further warning, and a boost due to unintended encouragement from Arietta, Ryohei grabbed Ffamran under the arms to lift him up. At first he didn't even seem to notice that the dough was being eaten by something, though did notice that it shifted forwards to fill the gap left by both the navigator's legs and whatever Sawaki had made Kiros get ( ... )

Adrian sputtered as the scene unraveled like a horrifying childrens book that depicted the evils of culinary cooking and the monsters that were produced when the kitchen wound up at the control of the wrong hands.

...or Ryohei's hands, to be precise.

She wasn't sure what to do but inch closer to the slowly gathering crowd and cry out to the other cook.

"Mr. Sasgawa...M-M-MR. SASAGAWA."

She shouted over the growing chaos and craned her neck to try and get a closer look at him. Everyone was doing their own little thing trying to fend of the..human-eating-glob-monster and Adrian faced difficulty even getting the boys attention.

"...I..I DON'T THINK IT'S A GOOD IDEA ANYMORE FOR YOU TO 'COOK' IN THE KITCHEN WITHOUT MY SUPERVISION."
