( ooc. Jen's arm is now out of the door (for the sake of watching space whales) )
It seemed that everybody was partying on the deck. Jen, naturally inclined to join the fun, was right on their heels. Heck, she was now unstuck, she was walking around as much as she could, enjoying the moment of quiet for her. Walking up to the deck, Jen smiled. "Hey! What's u-"
Everybody was looking up. Jen's eyes were instantly drawn to what everyone was staring at. A space whale. There was a space whale about to crash into the ship. "Whoa," Jen muttered, staring blankly at the whale. It was still surprising every time she saw one of these. So...what were they going to do?
This was ridiculous, really. Not sure exactly how he was supposed to answer Sonic's argument regarding birthdays, Shadow had shut his journal in frustration and gone out to get some air. The problem with Sonic's argument was that he couldn't disagree. It reminded him of when he'd asked Maria why they celebrated his birthday when he technically hadn't even been born. She had said that it didn't matter that he wasn't born the same way a normal living being was, the day he came into this world was still something to celebrate

Giselle was never angry for very long -- but she was still feeling just the tiniest bit miffed, after the entire debacle with the spoons. She hated to see Rikku so upset, and everyone had just been acting so silly -- and then she'd gone and been snippy, which she always hated, even though Naruto and Watanuki had been acting terribly disgraceful...
So she'd started cleaning. She knew she didn't have to, but the mindless labor calmed her down, and the kitchen really did need it after Watanuki had gone and booby-trapped the place. (Really! What would that man think of next?) So far she'd disabled the tripwire and found the bag of flour over the cabinet door -- and then a poor little mouse had stepped right into another one, just in front of the spoons drawer. Good heavens, what was it with Watanuki and those spoons

Standing in the corridor outside the galley, Watanuki was torn. Defend the galley against the whale? Go up to the deck and watch death coming? Try to help in some way? He fell back against the wall, shouts from the deck echoing above him, and covered his eyes in despair.
Triggered by his wildly fluctuating emotions, his right eye flickered - there was a flipper, scattering clouds in its wake - holy god, that thing was definitely bigger than the Winding Way, was definitely bigger than a hundred Winding Ways and probably a lot more than that - there was a great eye and a mouth that would not even feel the ship as it passed into it - and he decided that seeing death with both eyes was better than seeing it with one.
Giselle blew past him a moment later, cementing his decision. He pelted after her, joining in the yelling - it seemed the thing everybody was doing, and a life-or-death situation was no time to assert his individuality - and made it onto the deck inches behind her.
"GISELLE!" he shouted at her. "I'M SORRY ABOUT THE
Giselle made a quick scan of the deck, didn't see Vash's distinctive blond spikes, and continued running, barely even aware of Watanuki behind her until she heard him shouting. She skidded to a stop, nearly fell over, and only managed to catch herself by executing a very complicated dance step. As it was, she nearly ended up on top of Watanuki.
"I FORGIVE YOU!" she shouted back, apparently unable to stop yelling. "AND I AM PROUD OF YOU FOR ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY AND APOLOGIZING! BUT NOW I THINK WE SHOULD PROBABLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE WHALE BEFORE WE ARE ALL CRUSHED TO DEATH! DO YOU KNOW WHERE VASH IS?"
Watanuki caught her and held her straight by her arms, now shouting in her face - quieting down wasn't working for him, either. "THANK YOU!" he bellowed. "AND I AGREE! I SAW VASH GO TOWARD THE ENGINE ROOM, I THINK, BUT I DON'T KNOW, IT WAS KIND OF STEAMY DOWN THERE! BUT I THINK HE KNOWS ABOUT THE WHALE! JUST GUESSING!"
Sonic was a bit miffed that Shadow hadn't decided to tell him anything, so he decided to work more on the table. After some time, the blue hedgehog could hear voices from on deck... And he became curious.
Speeding out of his quarters and being careful of any obstacles that might have been in his way, the blue hedgehog arrived on deck, "What's going--"
It didn't take long for his thought to be answered.
"...HOOOOLY WHALE." Sonic said in awe, not really able to think of much else to say. He'd never seen one of these before, but he'd read about 'em, that was for sure! It'd be more excited about seeing it if it weren't for the fact that it was... heading... directly for their ship.
"...Uh oh." the teen blinked, a nervous grin on his face as he rubbed just under his nose, "This looks like a big challenge."
"That's one way of putting it." Shadow commented drily without so much as turning to look at Sonic from where he was at the railing nearby.
He was watching it's approach intently, sizing up the threat as he thought how he might approach the problem should it prove to be too big for the rest of the crew. He didn't quite want to reveal his abilities yet, but he still wished he had a Mana Crystal with him.
Sonic looked over at him. He huffed slightly, but decided now wasn't the time to talk about birthdays. If they couldn't stop this thing, none of them would see their next one, no matter how close it was.
He stroked his chin, "Wonder what we should do about this. If we could maybe lead it away? I wouldn't mind taking a ride on one of those things! It looks like fun!"
Joshua's out on the deck, fiddling with his camera and tripod as the sky whale approaches them at its deceptively leisurely pace. With the wind against him and the camera's incredibly limited features, he would be damn lucky if he managed to capture anything more than a speck in the sky.
Still, no harm in trying, right?
His journal is on the deck beside his tripod, the rubber grips on the journal's base preventing it from sliding around. As usual, his journal is relaying voice messages to him automatically as he receives them. But even though the voices on the other end are panicked, Joshua just calmly turns his camera and presses the button.
Alright, so Haruhi finally felt she had to go out on deck and see this for herself. Kir had refused to act as bait, sadly, so now they were probably all going to die. If that was so, then she was going to watch this whale until he very end. Then she would become a ghost. It worked out pretty well, actually!
That was when she spotted Joshua fiddling with a camera. Now, after attaining the one that she did through... somewhat dubious means, she was now highly interested in other models as well. Even if she was about to die, but she had to make the best of things, right?
"Trying to take a picture of the whale?" She stared out at the even approaching shape. "Wait until it gets reeeeeally close. Sure, that'll be about the time it hits the ship, but it's also when you'll get the best shot! It's too bad it's coming head-on. A side view would be much cooler."
Joshua half turns at Haruhi's approach before focusing his attention back on the whale and the people out there. He turns the camera a fraction to the left, making sure Tony and Carol wouldn't be in the photo.
"I'll be taking some shots when it's close as well," he says blandly, humming even as voices filter to him from his journal. "Multiple shots mean we can see the whale's approach. I might make a flick book."
"Oh, that would be cool!" Haruhi said. "Do you think you can make a flip book when you're dead? Well, you might be able to as a ghost, I guess. Are you going to come back as a ghost, too?"
Haruhi was already convinced that this was what she would do, if it came to it, so she wasn't nearly as worried as the rest of the crew. Life as a ghost would be pretty cool, wouldn't it?
