Maybe it would help him relax and not think about his mom, too.
"Ichigo, where are you?"

"You up for some work on Zangetsu?"

"Uh, yeah! Come on, I got some good parts!"

"What've you got?" he asked.

"Man, I am frickin beat!" He grumbled as he sat down along the side of the railing. Wiping the sweat off his brow, Yuri gazed out towards the horizon. It was still kind of sunny out even now that the sun was settling behind the mountains now. The sky was a mesh of bright orange and red hues and the clouds seemed to be tinted with a little bit of a tomato-like hue.
"Its pretty out here..." Yuri murmured to himself even though it was not too long ago that he was announcing his hate for the Badlands.

But he didn't have mechanics to focus on right now. Instead, there was just the sunset. It was pretty, he thought. It was something he was here to see, because --
No. He'd stop that train of thought right there. Still, it was enough to tense him up again.

"Yeah, I guess so," he replied, shrugging.

“What are you doing up here? Don’t you have a race to get ready for?” He asked in his usual nonchalant tone. Unlike everyone else upon the ship, the moody shipwright really didn’t care if Ichigo won or lost the race. Yuri was going to find some way to sabotage that ship but after seeing how steep the competition will be, he decided that there would be no need for him to do so. As much as everyone else had faith in Ichigo’s flying, Yuri had none and this works out well since he is betting against the Winding Way in the first place.
“You must be feeling confident or something…”

He smiled. For all appearances, Ichigo was just in a cheerful mood.
He didn't ask what Yuri was doing up here.
Maybe it would be better to sit up in the crow's nest. He liked it better up there, and then he could watch the sunset in peace, without having to deal with people who set him even more on edge than he already was.

And what he observed was a man who flew a metal aircraft, was a generally quiet guy unless provoked, and right now, he was very, very happy. But his body language, his movements, spoke of something else.
Tarzan dropped from a rope, grabbing another, swinging down until he was on the very edge of the deck. It also happened to be directly in front of Ichigo. "You are stiff."

"And what do you mean?" What was he talking about? Ichigo was fine. He'd worked hard at giving off the unmistakable impression of being fine.

He stayed crouched, watching Ichigo. This boy was bad at lying. He could hear the cheerfulness, the way it was a bit over the top but almost genuine too. But it was his body that gave him away. "You. Are stiff." He tried to look for another word. Maybe Ichigo would understand it if he used a different one. "...tense."
The human language was complicated.

But not quite.
"No, I'm fine. Really." And there came the smile again. "Nice to meet you."

"Yo, Ichigo!" he greeted with a beam, coming up from Ichigo's front with a tray of odd bits and ends of food on it. There were no sweets, though.

He was only halfway through his own lunch, which was delicious, as usual. Ichigo barely tasted the food, though, eating mechanically.
Reply
Still, he kept his own cheer up. "Afternoon! Food good? Can I sit here?"

It was almost creepy, how cheerful Ichigo was. This was because he didn't want Hughes asking questions about it, and the whole family business unsettled him. Why did this guy look so damn much like his dad?

Either way she wasn't going to take "Don't worry about it" as an answer and she set off down the halls, eyes peeled for the familiar orange head.

He took a step back. Had she already spotted him? Maybe if she hadn't seen him, he could take off and get lunch later.
Reply
"Onii-chan!" she called out, making absolute sure he knew she'd seen him.

"Hey, Ilya!" he greeted with a wave, smiling brightly at her. "'Morning!" Or was it afternoon now? Oh, well, it was late morning, anyway. Late enough for him to be hungry for lunch.
