The clocktower stretched upwards and upwards, up several stories. The stone staircase circled the tower all the way up, with rooms jutting off here and there. The constant tick...tick...tick of the clock's mechanism echoed constantly down the tower, and sounds of one's footsteps on the stone steps is also uncomfortably loud.

The target for the payload is all the way at the top of the tower. It was going to be a very long climb.

And while he didn't have any particular thing against walking, the fact that they were going somewhere and not killing anything (or even hurting someone from the looks of it) was a little disappointing.

Hibari moved a few steps ahead of the group, having elected to serve as point man and scout - the pilot was moving quietly with practiced ease, having done missions that had required stealth often back when he used to be with the Guild. It wasn't out of any sense of altruism or duty, really - it was mostly because he wanted to have first dibs on whatever came at them first. If anything came at all.

...There sure was a heckload of stairs.

"Bored. Bored. Bored. Monotonous. Bored. When am I going to get to kill something?"

Those were the very silent thoughts going through Bang's head as she followed Hibari up the seemingly endless flight of stairs. She wasn't naturally a very silent person, as the name gave away, but she was, after all, a pirate, and she was good at what she did.

The ominous tick...tick...tick of the clock above them was starting to get on her nerves though. Unconciously, she clenched her right hand a bit, the zapper device shooting a little blue spark, but nothing loud or attention drawing at all, nothing more than a couple of sparks. But she was getting impatient and really wished she could kill something with it right now...

Tick...tick...tick...

She was going to kill that clock as soon as they reached it, so help her.

Alex's footsteps were as light as he could make them with this bulky clock in his arms. He still was not certain exactly how he has wound up the one carrying the payload; he was in command here, after all. But Hibari was going ahead as point guard and Bangladesh...she was very capable, but if trouble presented itself he didn't trust her not to just drop it in a hurry to wade into the fray.

That left him, he supposed. He endured it stoically.

This is, without question, the heart of the interior guard. The large, central corridor in which they find themselves is patrolled nearly constantly, and is the only way to access the parliament chambers. Across the corridor are the large wooden double-doors that lead to a small antechamber; there is a guard within that antechamber at all times. Beyond that is the parliamentary chambers themselves, which are checked once every half hour by the antechamber guard.

Team Grizzled found a safe place, behind a pillar in the central corridor, for the time being, but they'll have to run a veritable gauntlet to get in and out undetected.

Nikolas was sincerely hoping this mission would go smoothly. He knew they had a difficult job ahead of them--the guards were numerous, and their task was not an easy one. Thankfully, it was also the sort of mission Nikolas was rather familiar with. True, of old he would have been going somewhere to dispatch someone in a rather permanent manner, but prohibitions on lethal force aside, it wasn't exactly new ( ... )

The mask was really annoying. It even covered her eyes (not that it mattered--she couldn't use them anyway).

Toph could tell the team leader was trying to watch the guards, and was probably failing miserably.

"There's about five in this hallway, and they rotate positions every few minutes. Not sure how often, though. I'm not a human watch," she informed him.

Nikolas had good reason to be somewhat concerned over one of the members of his team; Ikkaku's primary ability was seek and destroy, not sneak and replace, and the fact that he had been absolutely forbidden to dispatch anyone except in dire circumstances felt initially like just another way to cramp his style.

Still, he had been specifically chosen to help with this vital mission, so Ikkaku wasn't about to complain, nor was he willing at all to disappoint the team or the captain. Covering his head and face completely, Ikkaku wore a black shroud that revealed little else but his eyes and the red marks lining them. He stood with his back pressed tightly to the pillar, he glanced slightly over the edge and glanced out from the shadows.

"If they're constantly patrolling, we're only gonna be able to move a little at a time..." he whispered strongly. "I guess we could just knock 'em out, but it might seem a little suspicious the next day when every single guard wakes up with a headache..."

The claustrophobic corridors that run below the main Parliamentary Chambers are lush, with expensive wooden floors and walls adorned with all manner of frippery. It's not very well guarded...as far as you can tell. But the abundance of blind intersections and the way sound echoes through them makes it hard to tell if you're just about to walk right into someone.

Gin wasn't paying much attention to their surroundings once he'd confirmed that the hallways immediately around them were empty. No, his eyes were on their payload, and if he hadn't known better than to think that Alex would do anything to sabotage this mission he might have wondered. He also knew better than to think their Captain had a sense of humour, although Gin was finding the whole situation rather amusing in spite of, or more likely because of the gravity ( ... )

Holmes moved like a cat, keeping the noise of his own footfalls to a very light shuffle. However, the footsteps of his companions echoed louder than he would have liked. Still, his ears were pricked for any out-of-place footsteps, and one hand was on the small cudgel concealed in his coat. A gun would be more efficient in a fight, yes, but it would also be loud, and attract undue attention.

"Now, Mr. Ichimaru, don't let the chair's siren call distract you," Holmes remarked quietly, tone both teasing and reproving. They were on a mission here, and he noted Gin's levity with disapproval.

It had been a long time since Kira had been on a mission of any importance, let alone one that required stealth, but he found himself readjusting quickly. What did that say about him, he wonder as he gripped Wabisuke's hilt out of habit. Quiet out of necessity, Kira paused when the other two men began talking. There had been no footsteps other than their own recently. It seemed safe enough to indulge in a few words.

He agreed with Holmes, "Hard as it may be to resist, sir, we should really be quick about this."

Kira took a moment to actually look at the chair. It was almost unnecessarily intricate. He found himself almost admiring its craftsmanship and had to remind himself that it was an illegal piece. (Still, he shouldn't have doubts about the mission. They weren't mere criminals trying to make a profit. They were acting on behalf of justice, so even if it wasn't within the parameters of the law... The ends justified the means, didn't they?)
