"Hey cap'n," came the deep, familiar, and yet somehow softened voice of one Jotaro Kujo, pilot of the Star Platinum. His coat carried a bit in the wind as he walked up to stand beside her, leaning against the rail. He always seemed to have the look of a statue...

Pack, slide, light, and a draw of a cigarette. It was almost meditation. He didn't get the obsession with gambling either...just a waste of time by old men and annoying women.

"Glad you're here," he said. And not there, he thought. He rather liked her company.

Isako tightened her grip on the railing as she heard someone approach. Not some idiot--

She turned her head to the side, intending to glare at whoever was coming towards her in hopes that it would scare them off, but she paused as she finally saw just who was coming toward her. She gave him a nod and turned her gaze forward once more, looking out into the barren Badlands landscape.

Good, it had only been a false alarm. Jotaro was certainly better than the other idiots on the ship, and she had been fairly impressed with his performance while they were searching that shipwreck. She could tolerate his presence.

Still, that didn't change her usual, slightly peeved tone. "Why wouldn't I be here?"

"Dunno...maybe a sudden taste for games of chance," Jotaro said, a slight chuckle in his voice as he let a trail of smoke leave his lips. What a waste it all was...ah well.

"So what's the plan after this?" he asked, bluntly. "Assuming some idiot doesn't run up the debt down there. At this rate, even paying for repairs will be a pain in the ass."

"Gambling? Hmph. If you haven't noticed, I already do enough of that in this line of work." Being a pirate, hell, living in Vohemar made every day a gamble. Isako had learned to live with it, but that didn't mean she wanted to go seeking it out.

Ugh. Did he really have to get into this? Sure, it was what she had been thinking of, but... How does a captain say to a crew member, 'I don't know.'

"We need bigger jobs. Unfortunately, those come with a lot of risk." She began scratching the railing with her nail, thinking it over. "At this rate, I'm almost wondering if we should take the risk of pirating again. We can try different routes. Alternate so that stupid Ivonian ship doesn't catch our trail..." It was obvious she was mostly thinking aloud now, rather than talking to Jotaro.

Naoto had been gazing over the Badlands for a while now, her scarf standing idle by her side before she chose to discard it completely. She had almost forgotten how the climate got in the familiar stretches of land, but only because most of the memories spent her were ones she tried hard to forget.

It was quiet until she heard the sharp intake of breath and the shuffling of clothes a few feet from her, and so she raised her head and stared at the girl in question.

Approaching her rather quietly, she reminded herself to keep her distance.

"..it's rare to see you out and about."

Isako knew that voice, but she didn't turn around. She hadn't been having the best of conversations with Naoto lately, and she didn't want to think about how bad a face to face conversation could get.

Something about the way Naoto spoke to her made Isako feel like a child. If there was one thing she hated, it was being treated like a kid. No, it was being made to feel like a child. That was much, much worse.

"I wanted some fresh air, that's all." She scoffed, still keeping her gaze forward. "Not that you can get that out here. Or anywhere, really."

It was enough to hear that familiar bitterness in Isako's voice to remember herself in those very same shoes only a handful of years ago, and she wondered briefly if their reasons for being on this ship were any the same.

While she knew that there was definitely some story concerning a boy from the leak of that flier, that was about as far as she could gather about her. Whoever he was, he obviously placed some importance in her priorities.

Naoto glanced back at her back before switching her stare into the Badlands again.

"I suppose so. I'd be lying if I said there was any part of the Badlands where you'd find fresh air."

Isako followed Naoto's gaze. There really was a whole lot of nothing out there.

"I don't know how people can stand to live here." Then, quieter, she added, "I don't know how people can stand to live anywhere."

The only true place to be was the sky, and even that was getting a little old. The world was falling apart around her and there was only one thing Isako wanted. One thing. Was that so much to ask?
