On a normal morning, Franziska awoke immediately, mind already sharpened and ready for the day head.

The morning was not, however, a normal one, and she awoke as though under a heavy veil. She opened her eyes and soon very much wished she had not - the light streaming in from the single window seemed to set her retinas on fire, which in turn alerted her to a particularly nasty headache beating around her skull.

Franziska gave a grumbling sound of displeasure and rolled over, pulling her teal down covers wi-

...This, she realized with some difficulty and no small amount of confusion, is not my bed. Horror dawning upon her, Franziska opened her eyes and caught sight of a person-size lump not five inches away from her. A few hazy flashes of the previous night registered in her memory - the prince would die before sundown, she swore it - and Franziska was certain she was still dressed but she nevertheless froze in both fear and mortification ( ... )

Tatiana felt a flash of annoyance at the person in bed with her for making sound before it occurred to her hangover-fuzzed brain that someone was in bed with her.

She sat bolt upright, ignoring how much that made her head swim and pound. She looked over at the other side of her bed, dreading for a moment that Kongou had somehow found his way back onto the ship, and flushed when she saw Franziska von Karma's back.

"L-lieutenant Commander!" she said, flustered.

For the second time in five excruciating moments, Franziska froze again, her back rigid and mind blank in a panicked sort of way. Her eye twitched once. "Sub-Lieutenant," she said in stiff greeting. She didn't turn around. "I will be leaving now."

Franziska attempted to stand and did manage to get upright, though only with the help of the bedpost. "My-" her head swam at the sudden change of position. "My apologies for last night's debacle." The seven or eight steps to the door looked wearying, but not impossible - certainly an improvement over her utterly foolish inability to do anything under her own will the previous evening.

"No apologies necessary, sir," Tatiana said, clutching her own head. "I don't even remember...what happened last night?" she said, changing the second half of the sentence into a question midway through.

They didn't...no, of course not. They were both fully dressed, after all. And if they had--no. She would be able to tell. Or so she hoped.
