Katsu is going to get his butt kicked from here to next week :D imadoushin December 30 2008, 20:41:21 UTC
Katsushiro had never seen a Jäger fight. Which was a pity, since if he had, he would never have thought that showing up to answer Maxim's challenge could, by any stretch of the imagination be called a good idea. He wasn't incompetent, but he was far from being a match for Maxim.

Blissfully unaware of his own impending doom, the young samurai made his way up on deck, quickly spotting Maxim and heading over.

Aha! His first challenger. At least, he hoped. Maxim watched the kid approach and stood his ground firmly, a smirk spreading across his face. He recognized the kid's face but didn't know his name.

"Hey dere, keed! Hyu here for zum fightink?"

Katsushiro nodded agreement, his hand going to the hilt of the katana at his waist. "If that's alright with you."

He twitched slightly at the 'kid' - though he supposed, since he couldn't remember ever having reason to give the Jäger his name, he'd have to call him something. Didn't mean 'kid' was something he liked being called, though. "And...my name's Katsushiro."

At hearing the kid's name Maxim frowned and furrowed his brows, attempting to repeat it. "Katshu-..Kat-... Er, mebbe hyu heff a nickname? Votever language hyu name iz from dun exactly roll off de tongue for me."

"Hy'm Maxim... in case hyu vants to beg for mercy durink de fight." He grinned wide, showing off his unsettlingly sharp fangs.

The word "fight" was music to Dimo's ears. Watching Maxim get the unholy hell beat out of him definitely sounded like his way to spend an afternoon. With a small pouch of coins attached to his belt in case he needed them to place a bet, he leaned back against the railing, eager to watch the pain begin, whomever it was that ended up getting hurt. It was all fun, after all.

Round 1...~ seventh_hero December 31 2008, 01:08:11 UTC
Cloud inhaled deeply as he set foot on the deck, drawing air into every spare inch of room within his lungs.

"Is this really a good idea? he thought.

Having heard Maxim's friendly challenge, the idea of joining in immediately popped into his mind; if just not for the chance to socialize further with the rest ofthe crew, but at the very least to stretch out his legs for a change. Even worse, there was just something terribly alluring about sparring and the horribly addictive rush of blood and adrenaline that came with the chance to prove himself, to clash swords once more after so long and to really, truly put his muscles to work beyond simple ship repairs.

"Wait...once more?"

The way the thought had occurred to him was not a simple matter of living peaceably for the last few weeks. No, this felt more like he was more accustomed to fighting on a very regular basis, but that just wasn't so. He had spent the last year or so simply traveling, only raising up his sword when absolutely necessary.

There was some reason why he tried to ( ... )

Oho, now here was a challenger that Maxim was greatly interested in. He'd been fascinated by the massive sword Cloud carried around since he met the guy. And now he'd get to see it in action. There was no way that someone with average strength could wield that thing unless it were made of some special extra-light-weight metal. Chances were that Cloud would be at least somewhat of a match for Maxim. And he liked that idea.

He smirked and stood protectively before the crate of goodies he'd brought up on deck. "Hey, eet'z de fonny guy! Go ahead und show me vot hyu got."

Cloud, displaying a bit of natural curiosity, tilted his head off at a questioning angle as he noticed Maxim's defensive stance in front of the crate of spoils. His eyes darted back and forth between the Jäger and his prize for a moment before ultimately settling on Maxim. Cloud shook his head and let out a gentle chuckle.

"No, no, it's okay..." he said reassuringly. "I'm...not really interested in taking anything from you."

Solidifying his grasp on the sword's hilt, his hands like drying concrete, Cloud hoisted it up and swung it effortlessly to his front, then held it motionlessly out there for a moment. "Honestly, I'd just like to play around with you. I know that you're pretty strong...and really, I want to make sure I haven't gotten rusty, taking it easy all this time."

WHAM. With an unmistakable crunching sound, Cloud visibly lessened his grip and allowed the edge of the titanic blade to slam into the deck. The weight and composition of the weapon was no longer a mystery: like a boulder in soft sand, the sword's keen tip had ( ... )

"Play around, huh? Hokay, sounds goot to me. Bot hyu von't get any prizes dot vay." He said it in a teasing tone, disappointed that Cloud didn't want a real match. Oh well. At least he'd get to see that sword in action.

As it slammed into the deck Maxim jumped a bit. Holy Hell, but that thing was heavy! Cloud had to have some sort of souped-up strength to be able to wield that thing. There was just no way around it. This would definitely be very interesting ( ... )

Hijikata wasn't really all that interested in a fight. At least, he wasn't bent on having one--prizes held little meaning to him, and he didn't have anything to prove to the crew. But watching the fights...well, that was a different matter. As strategist, the more information he had available to him when planning, the better... and that meant the more he knew about the crew members' strengths and weaknesses, the better. So when Maxim put out his challenge, it wasn't long until Hijikata made his way to the deck, watching the matches with quiet, detached interest, making notes in his mind on each combatant's strengths, weaknesses, and preferred tactics ( ... )
