In sharp contrast to Laharl's ridiculously oversized sword, the Nightmare had brought more modest weapons with him: a baseball bat and a yo-yo. The red one from Rhyme, to be exact. He vaguely knew who Laharl was. Overlord Laharl was the one who barged into Ness' date with Joshua that one time with the tasty noodles. It didn't seem like Ness liked Overlord Laharl very much.

"Hi," he greeted, bounding up onto the deck like a child. "Thank you for playing with me!"

No. No. No no no no no.

No stopping. There would not be any stopping until he had won. Because the Nightmare played to win. He didn't care if Laharl was an overlord. This game was over when the Nightmare said it was. He had the will to continue fighting, and if this body didn't want to continue...

Well, he'd make it.

...somehow.

For now he'd just whine feebly in return.

Laharl had never quite heard someone make those kind of noises before, not in combat, at least. It...worried him. Had he done Ness real harm? He might be a heartless Overlord, but...he hadn't intended to hurt him; this match was just for fun.

He could almost feel Flonne's angry glare.

"Err...well...if we're done, we should probably get you patched up a bit." He glared as hard as he could manage, considering the worry creeping up in him. "Don't tell anyone I did this."

With that, he channeled some energy. It was hard to shape it into healing magic - he'd never really learned it in the first place, and it wasn't really in tune with his personality in the second - but he managed, and used it to try and fix some of the Nightmare's wounds.

The pain, it was...going away? Just a little bit. This wasn't healing that the Nightmare was used to. It was very...basic and weak. But it was still healing all the same. He looked up at Laharl curiously. Did...did Overlord Laharl care?

"Heh heh heh...thank you," he giggled before managing to get up. Okay, still a little hurt, but he was much better than before.

And with that, he promptly swung his bat at Laharl's head.

That was the last thing he expected to have happen. Still focused on healing the Nightmare, Laharl had absolutely no chance to get out of the way, or even try for a block; he took the blow straight to his head.

He lost a second or so, and found himself sprawled on the deck, bleeding from a nasty cut on the side of his head. It felt...bruised.

He'd healed the kid, and this was how he repaid him? Normally, Laharl would laud the sheer demonic bastardlyness that would require...but now, he was just pissed. He sprung to his feet, ignoring the wave of dizziness that caused, and thrust his hands into the air. A spark of magic ignited into a ball of flame; further energy blasted it into dozens of pulsing balls of fire.

Bringing his arms down, the massed flames hurtled at the Nightmare. He'd learn an Overlord's wrath!

Oh, he was waiting for something like this. He would welcome these flames with open arms. He put a hand to his forehead and a blue barrier surrounded the Nightmare. Instead of just protecting him from the fire, however, it seemed to be absorbing it, and slowly, more of the wounds on the Nightmare's body began to heal.

"Thank you again!" He cried, eyes wide and with a grin on his face.

And he rewarded Laharl by forming a ball of electricity and sending it straight for the demon.

For whatever reason, Shiki had a hard time sleeping that night. She tossed and turned, now finding herself staring wide awake at the ceiling. After a while, she groaned and got out of her bunk, Mr. Mew following behind her. Maybe she just needed some fresh air.

In just her nightie and undergarments she made her way from her cabin to the deck, yawning now and then. Man, if she was yawning, why did she have such a hard time sleeping? She didn't get how her body worked sometimes.

What she got when she reached the deck however was not fresh air, but the smell of fish.

"Ew, gross!" she exclaimed, shutting her eyes tightly and covering her nose, Mr. Mew attempting to mimic the behavior. "Why does it stink up here!?"

When she opened her eyes she realized she had an even bigger problem. Two boys she'd seen around the ship numerous times fighting. And causing damage too.

"HEY, STOP! What on earth do you guys think you're doing?!"

There was a limit to how much insult Laharl could take. Granted, it wasn't very high, but he had been at his most forgiving for a moment, and the Nightmare had crumpled his good sentiment up and blown his nose into it.

He would have to pay. Laharl didn't just want to beat him, now - he wanted to make him suffer.

Too focused to notice the young woman who just appeared on deck and started shouting, once again he charged energy into his right fist. This time, instead of jumping into the air, he threw himself into a dash along the deck. He angled the attack so that it would be easiest to dodge his flaming punch if the Nightmare went to Laharl's left...which would leave him wide open to be struck by the large fish Laharl surreptitiously grabbed off the deck during his rush.

Like Laharl, the Nightmare also paid the yelling girl no heed. Neither of them looked like they planned on stopping anytime soon.

Normally, Nightmare would dodge. But it looked like to him that Laharl was putting a lot into that punch, and it was only fair that the Nightmare fight back with equal force and gusto. Besides, a good offense is the best defense.

Or something like that. Whatever. He was fully healed now, he could probably take a hit if he messed up. Probably.

...well, it might be a good idea to not mess up.

Summoning a massive amount of energy, the Nightmare created several waves of force and sent them straight for Laharl.

The last think Laharl had expected was for the Nightmare to meet his attack head-on. It was a good thing he'd decided not to be conservative and put sufficient energy into the Burning Knuckle to make it a full attack, rather than a ruse; after all, if his opponent got hit by that, it'd be...almost as satisfying as if he was smacked by the fish.

He could use this, though. Shifting slightly, he balanced himself so that the waves of force, as they collided with the energy his outstretched fist was putting out, spun him towards the Nightmare. With the appropriate torque now applied, attacking with the fish was really just a matter of sticking his arm out.

That didn't stop him from swinging it at his opponent's face as hard as he could manage, of course; Laharl didn't do things in half-measures.

[ooc: apologies to Shiki, it will be slightly easier to interfere shortly!]

The Nightmare was at a loss. All he could do was try to find a way out of this mess. And the only way he could think of was to dodge Laharl's attack. As soon as he saw that his own attack had not worked, he started to run to the side to dodge.

Of course, when a demon is coming at you at high speed with every intent to beat the living daylights out of you, you don't have much time to get away. Despite his efforts, the Nightmare was caught by Laharl's fist and was sent back from the force.

If it was any small consolation, being punched managed to help him avoid getting slapped with a fish.

Skidding to a halt on the deck, Laharl was slightly displeased that his brilliant plan wound up being complete overkill. Still, a hit was a hit; he discarded the fish by flinging it aside.

Now, to finish the fight; he advanced on the off-balance Nightmare, sword ready for a power swing. No misplaced mercy this time!

All right, Shiki had enough. The boys weren't listening to her, in fact they were flat out ignoring her! If she wanted to stop them there was only one way.

She picked up Mr. Mew with both hands...

"GO MR. MEW!"

...and threw him at Laharl.

Shortly after being thrown, Mr. Mew adjusted his position, so one paw was out like he was about to punch somebody. He gained momentum (Shiki always had a good throw) so the hit would have some definite force to it...

...and punched its target right in the kisser.

Laharl was winding up for a good ol' baseball swing with his sword (that'd teach the bat-using Nightmare) when, for the second time in the evening, he found himself punched in the face. The blow hurt - not nearly as bad as the last one, this felt like it was given by something almost...squishy - but the surprise staggered him.

Completely incensed, he looked around for the culprit. A small cat doll had landed a few feet away from him; as soon as he noticed it, it first mimed pulling at its eye at him, then slapped its butt at him twice for an additional taunt.

As it scampered off, all thoughts of the Nightmare were forgotten. Laharl would leave that stuffed animal as a pile of fluff!

What...happened? All the Nightmare could remember was getting punched by Laharl. Shouldn't the overlord be rushing in to finish him off by now? Confused, he looked around to see what was going on. It seemed that Laharl was busy staring at all...plush cat?

And apparently he was angry at it. Oh, was he ever! The stuffed kitty was doing funny things to make Laharl mad.

"Kitty~" Nightmare giggled, taking the opportunity to mend his wounds.

Mr. Mew quickly ran back over to Shiki and hopped in her arms. Shiki meanwhile, kept a deadly glare on Laharl.

"Now that I've got your attention," she began, voice matching the glare. "What the heck do you boys think you're doing!? It's late at night and you're damaging the deck! You should be in bed, not up here trying to kill each other or whatever it is you're doing!"

Okay so she sounded like a big sister. A nagging big sister. But she didn't care. She wasn't impressed and it was gonna show. "Captain Ryuuzaki isn't going to be happy when he hears about this!"
