The curve of beach that starts at the north of this area continues westward, making half the land in this square nothing but beach - that is, except for the interruption of the wall of coral, which travels in a more jagged line here

They kept walking, and still there was nothing but jungle all around them. Climbing over huge roots and ducking under the vines was starting to feel tedious to Vash, and he was aware that they would be covering much more ground if only there weren't so much of it in the way.
It was as he was brushing aside more of the foliage that he heard a hissing noise right in his ear, more than enough to make him jump out of his skin. Vash whirled around, bringing his gun up, pointing it straight past... the huge anaconda he'd just mistaken for another dead vine. The snake was now staring him in the face from only an inch away, and it did not look amused.
"GAAAH!!" He just barely managed to keep his finger off the trigger, but in the process Vash stumbled backwards and tripped over his own feet.
Phoenix was close behind Vash, so when the gunner suddenly went down with a rather surprising scream, Nick found himself similarly caught off guard. He shouted sharply, the idea of staying quiet temporarily shot from his mind in the presence of the ohgodfuck anaconda.
(Nick liked snakes, but only the little crawlies. Not so much the ones of the big hungry 'I swallow large spiky haired mammals' variety.)
Vash tumbled right in front of the navigator, and Phoenix only barely managed to avoid falling as well. He did, however, stumble most spectacularly while also attempting to hit the snake with his short-sword. Nick succeeded only in flailing a bit, and smacking the anaconda with the broad-side of his blade. It hissed loudly at him and pulled back, curled in a defensive position, body tense.
Lafiel had been following the three pirates as they made their way through the jungle. On hearing the scream, and the sounds of someone stumbling and something hitting the tree, she decided that there was a fight.
She moved out from her cover to a spot that was slightly more exposed, but had a better view, getting off a quick shot (that would probably miss and do nothing more than startle the birds). "Surrender, pirates!"
Kurt immediately turned as Vash, ah, screamed. Quickly pulling out his cutlass, he turned expecting an enemy such as a BAF officer or another pirate. When he saw the rather large snake, he balked. Taking a moment to prepare an attack after the rather failed attempt Phoenix had tried, Kurt remembered that they were being followed.
His grip tightened on the hilt of his sword as he heard the gunshot go off and looked around to make sure that had missed their party. If it had hit someone from his ship, that officer would have had hell to pay.
"We have no quarrel with you, madam officer." He said to her, raising his hands. No, he had no desire to start some fight.
Phoenix felt a brief sensation of relief as Edgeworth stopped struggling, but the other man's flailing started up again in earnest almost immediately. Nick whipped his head back around. What in the world is he do-
In a drawn-out moment of clarity, he slowly lifted his head. He had only the smallest glimpse of Edgeworth's saber hacking haphazardly at the foliage above him before he was viscously attacked by what seemed like the entire jungle. Phoenix let out a strangled yelp of surprise and batted at his entangled head with his free hand, still retaining the sense of mind to hold on to Edgeworth with the other. He stepped back in confusion and felt the ground beneath him give way to open air.
"Oh, cra-AUGH!" With a slight twist of his ankle, he fell backwards and down the hill, dragging the unfortunate B.A.F. officer with him.
As soon as the vines fell down, Edgeworth pulled away...only to find that, instead of his grip growing slack, the surprise only seemed to make Phoenix cling tighter.
You damned fool! he thought bitterly, while his mind raced to find some other way to escape. Why do you keep on-
He found his thoughts interrupted, though, by Phoenix's cry of surprise. The next thing he knew, he was being dragged down, tumbling over dirt and rocks. Edgeworth let out a most undignified yell of surprise, and the sword slipped out of his hand as he continued his descent, rolling down the hill and letting out a string of unfinished exclamations. Finally they both reached flat ground (with the B.A.F. officer managing a softened, albeit unintentional, landing on his opponent's ribcage), and Edgeworth scrambled up, feeling dazed, frustrated, and furious.
Phoenix landed hard at the bottom of his tumble and let out an audible oof. As he began to breathe in again, he was almost immediately crushed by a writhing, burgundy person who seemed composed of nothing but elbows, all aimed for his lungs and other soft insides. He was quite certain he'd heard something crack.
The pointy man (Edgeworth, he reminded himself) continued writhing, but blessedly managed to writhe himself off of Nick, who promptly curled around his bruised torso.
"Ow, jeeze..." he groaned, for now unaware of his companions' touchy mood. Phoenix stood up gingerly, tested his twisted ankle and, satisfied that he could walk on it, turned to Edgeworth. "You alright?"
Fortunately, Edgeworth had managed to shake off the worst of his dazed, dizzy confusion (although the anger and frustration still remained to be dealt with). As soon as he heard Phoenix rise up, he turned around, poised, prepared, ready to take action against...
...civility and polite concern? That wasn't right, that wasn't right at all. Edgeworth boggled at the other man, like a second head just sprouted from his shoulders. "What are you doing?" he sputtered out, as instinct forced him to take a step back.
