Lavi had done enough rummaging for midnight snacks in his time on the ship to be pretty intimately familiar with the layout of the kitchen. He came in far enough onto autopilot not to actually notice Kyuzo for several minutes.

He pulled his head out of a cupboard, a carrot in one hand and a quarter-cabbage in the other, finally spotting the other man. He looked the messy-haired samurai up and down as he slid the chopping board out from its rack and fished a knife out of a drawer.
"You looking for something?"

Kyuzo was determined not to draw more attention to himself even when the other person walked into the kitchen, but the question was inevitable. He never stopped looking, but he spared a glance towards the other guy. Red hair, eyepatch. Didn't recognize him. His voice sounded vaguely familiar, though...

"Something to eat," he replied blandly, as if it wasn't on the top of his list of priorities.

"Anything in particular?" Lavi asked, pleasantly, setting to work chopping his vegetables. "I'm making stir-fry, if you want some." He waved his knife vaguely at the vegetables, now mostly chopped up.
Burrowing back into the cupboard, he came out with an onion, which he held up with a triumphant grin before turning back to Kyuzo and awaiting a response to his offer.

He paused in his search, looking the red-head over in full for the first time. Accepting the offer would be a good idea, he wasn't getting anywhere. He turned, closed the particular cupboard he was in, and then leaned against the counter.

"Sure."

He was sure now that this was the person he'd spoken with briefly earlier, who managed to get some sort of a scolding for not being happy with Kyuzo's lack of conversation. He wondered how long it'd be until he caught on too.

Naoto had slid down towards the kitchen in hopes for something to eat. Completely exhausted from the training session she held privately on the top deck for herself, she unsuspectingly pushed the doors open and let herself in.

It took less than two seconds for her to recognize another presence and a handful of restraint to automatically assume the worst about him. Walking over silently, she tilted her head at the blond-haired man with his head in the cupboards before clearing her throat to make her presence known.

He heard someone enter, but continued his search regardless. Even when they cleared their throat he didn't turn around immediately. He took a moment to close the cupboard he was examining before finally turning around to see just who was trying to get his attention.

He was mildly surprised to see it was a woman, though she was one he didn't recognize. He didn't say anything, instead simply looking at her as if it would give her permission to speak first. It wasn't a stare or his usual glare, though in the back of his mind he was already preparing a response for a misinterpretation of the look.

"..are you looking for something?"

She kept her words brief and curt, already realizing that whoever he was bore a new face on board. Although Naoto didn't take much time to familiarize herself with every member of the ship with her anti-social nature, so she tried not to be too suspicious, choosing instead to eye him carefully.

Well. That was better than expected. His eyes drifted from the woman to a spot somewhere on the wall a few feet to her left.

"...something to eat." he said. His volume was at a mumble, though his words were well-enunciated and distinct against the relative quiet of the large room around them. He always talked like that--he could recall dozens of underlings surprised to get a leader who didn't shout his orders.

He wondered if he'd met this woman before through the journals and just couldn't recognize the voice yet. Or perhaps she hadn't been using the voice option... He couldn't say.

...Ann was totally addicted to chocolate.

...That, and food in general. That's what happens when you don't eat in days.

Well, not eat much in days.

She had simply wanted to go into the kitchen and get some food for herself...just a bit, not enough to really be noticeable...

On her tiptoes, she snuck into the kitchen, glancing inside...

don't let anyone be here, don't let anyone be here...oh GOD, don't let anyone be here...

...But a flash of blonde hair and a rather unfamiliar presence destroyed THAT notion immediately.

..."AAACK!"

...And what was it with her tripping and falling these days. Must have been getting that huge load off her back. Speaking of Heihachi, she needed to do something for him to thank him for listening to her.

He liked rice, so...

But the more pressing issue was that she was flat on her face.

On the kitchen floor.

...

Looking like an idiot.

A commotion to the left broke his concentration and he turned to look at the startled young girl's surprise upon, he presumed, unexpected presence in the room.

...Though while most people would have been alarmed, or at least concerned, with a girl falling on her face right in front of them, Kyuzo appeared entirely unfazed, as if he'd seen it coming. He hardly moved, save for relocating one of his feet a little closer towards his center in case the fall dislodged something he needed to avoid.

"...you all right?" he said without much apparent concern, the inquiry coming a little late anyway.

Wandering down the halls of the ship, Kambei found himself heading towards the kitchen at the sound of someone rummaging through the cabinets. Instead of running into one of the many crew mates of this ship, Kambei found himself staring at the back of an all too familiar blond hair samurai. He stood for a moment in pure silence as he watched the other search for throughout the kitchen, idly wondering what could say to Kyuzo. The two of them haven't spoken since their time in Kanna village and Kambei knew he left all too abruptly after their sure victory over the bandits. He always wondered idly if Kyuzo ever planned on making good with his murderous oath and now it that may finally be answered.

There was... Someone in the room. Their footsteps stopped there.

His motions slowed, then ceased as he got the feeling he knew exactly who was watching him. He straightened from where he was and turned his head, just able to piece together the image of the man from the corner of his eye. It didn't take long to put a name to the face; Shimada Kambei, the entire reason he was even on this ship.

He forced down the rush of excitement and anxiousness upon finally seeing him again. Kambei was alive and he would still get his battle. All the wandering and the long weeks away suddenly seemed a little more worth it. It was, perhaps, enough to tide him over for just a little longer.

"We still have a score to settle."

He spoke quietly, and as always, his face betrayed nothing.

There was silence between the two of them after Kyuzo spoke, for Kambei choose not to speak as of yet. He simply eyed the samurai with scrutiny as they stood facing each other after the long year that has passed since Kanna. The old samurai didn’t notice a change at all in Kyuzo’s appearance or demeanor, he looked the same as always with that indifferent glare lurking within his eyes. Kambei knew that Kyuzo intends to make good on his word someday but that did not mean that he would not put up a ‘worthy fight’ against him.

“Yes, I know.” The white clad samurai said as he entered into the kitchen , glancing about at some of the empty shelves that still haven’t been stacked properly with food as of yet. However, there where a few things that Kyuzo could eat scattered about in the kitchen but Kambei knew that food would come second to their conversation now.

“How did you know I was here?” Kambei asked with no emotion shining through in his tone.

Kyuzo's turned a little more to get a better look at Kambei. His eyes stayed fixed on the man's face, but from what he could tell, the older samurai looked about the same as he had when he'd last seen him. Same weathered face, same empty eyes. That same poetry about him that made it seem like Kyuzo'd never left.

His scowl grew just a little longer. The other man made it sound like he'd been purposely hiding away, avoiding his promise. He didn't need to know, as far as Kyuzo was concerned. He had his methods, and he didn't want to let Kambei know what they were in case they had to part ways again. It was a battle for who could remain the more composed and unreadable of the two. He supposed, as his eyes narrowed, that he was the one losing.

"Don't forget." He muttered darkly in warning.
