TEOCUITLATL: SQUARE G5

Nov 25, 2007 00:02

This edge of the island is one long strip of sand, running north to south on a crooked line. The near-white sand is spotless, unmarked by anything but the small tracks of birds and colorful crabs, the sand drawing so close to the edge it's in danger of falling into the sea far, far below ( Read more... )

The Goliath arrived at the shoreline without much incident, aside from the small problem of preventing the large ship from bashing straight into the faulty shoreline and taking a good chunk with it. The minor crisis was adverted, thankfully, and soon the Goliath was docked on shore and the Captain took it upon himself to step outside first to survey the area ( ... )

Edgeworth was pleased. While the pirates had a headstart, Britannia's closer proximity to the island evened things out (not as much as he'd like, but he'd just have to make do), and despite the Goliath's bulk, they had made surprisingly good speed. With any luck, they wouldn't be too far behind their quarry.

After Vava gave the go ahead, the lieutenant stepped onto the island. While he lacked the impressive weaponry his superior had, he wasn't completely helpless - his trusty saber was at his side, as well as a standard issue pistol. As much as he detested firearms, he grudgingly admitted that it was useful when things took a turn for the unexpected. After taking a quick glance at his navigational device, uploaded with all the relevant date on the island (which was still scarce, even with the details he was able to pick up before they left), he caught up with the captain. "Yes, sir."

Lafiel was a bit hesitant on this mission, not that she was telling anyone that. The wall of coral ahead of them looked quite imposing. She shook her head, as if trying to clear it, and followed the captain and Lieutenant Edgeworth onto the island.

She was carrying the same standard issue pistol as Edgeworth, but also had a pack of emergency supplies on her back. She looked to the captain, seeing if he had any further orders once the rest of the crew had disembarked.

Grimmjow was pumped. His only weapons were his sword and his fists, but hell, what kind of pussy needed firearms, anyway? He followed the rest of the crew onto land and waited with them, fidgeting slightly out of excitement.

What the hell was everyone waiting for? He wanted to go out and kill something. God, finally. He'd had enough of that fucking cooking; granted, he liked dealing with dead stuff, but only if it was killing something and then maybe kicking the corpse out of his way.

Impatiently, he began boxing in place. He felt vaguely out of practice, anyway- the last real physical activity outside of daily workouts he'd had was that one baseball game a few weeks ago.

[Continued from here]

The three of them had teleported over the wall just in time to hear the sound of gunfire in the distance. Vash had drawn his revolver before the smoke had even cleared, distance or not. But it didn't sound like a real fight, and the three had picked their way through the thick foliage, heading north. Whatever was shooting things up out there was still very close to their position.

They reached the opening in the wall to find the area was a complete mess. There were bits of coral strewn about everywhere, quite literally blasted away from the site from the force of the bullets. Even the trees standing behind it weren't unscathed.

"Machine gun," Vash said quietly as he stared at one of the trees, which was leaking sap where the bullets had left holes in the trunk. "This couldn't be anything else."

Phoenix was close behind Vash, the sound of gunfire still fresh in his mind. He came to a slow stop behind the gunman and stared at the coral explosion.

"...what kind of person packs much firepower while on foot?" Nick frowned and glanced out to the jungle, where there were multiple (and rather obvious) tracks heading west.

Kurt followed behind the two others as they approached the debris from the gun fire. His ears could pick up the sound of whatever made the hole walking through the jungle. The others looked a little confused. (Well, Phoenix did, at least) Kurt approached the scene last with a serious disposition.

"Military. This was militant firepower. They can't be vary far away, we need to be extra careful from here on."

Kurt had yet to draw his sword but he kept an extremely alert look as he eyed the area. Through the hole in the coral he was able to see the ship. The ship was larger than the Hawk and looked far more advanced.

Furthermore, he didn't recognize it. They were either very new, or very secret.

Whichever military they were dealing with here, it wouldn't mean good news for them. A machine gun was definitely more firepower than the three of them had on hand, and all those footprints couldn't belong to a single person. They hadn't even bothered to hide their passing, which meant that they either didn't know anyone else was on the island, or didn't care.

It was as he was looking at the trees to which the footprints followed that he felt something. It was a sensation some people would call 'someone stepping on their grave'; to Vash it felt more like someone had decided to dance a jig on it. When the feeling didn't face, his expression slipped for a split second, brow furrowing as he stared very intently off into the distance...

Just as soon as it had arrived, it was gone, replaced with the look of vague concern he'd had before. "Will we try to avoid them, Captain?" Vash asked Kurt, still keeping his voice low.

The captain ordered them to spread out, and spread out they would. Slowly, Edgeworth began to make his way southwest. He was in no particular rush - in his experience, it paid more to be thorough than it did to be hasty. With his saber drawn, he kept an eye out not only for clues about the treasure, but also for potential threats (be they pirates, or the more colorful flora and fauna of the island). If there was nothing to be found here, then he would simply change directions and regroup with one of his shipmates, and see what they discovered.

Lafiel wanted to get a better sense of where exactly they had landed -- lest she run into another coral wall, or something she couldn't handle. Instead of following the rest of the crew into the jungle right away, she set her pack down, removed some rope, and started climbing one of the taller trees.

Hopefully she would see some disruption in the jungle which would be at least something to make for.

Hmph! Yes, Haruhi would be just fine on her own! She'd show them! She'd find the treasure all by herself and bring it back for the captain. Then she'd rub it in Kyon's face. Haha, it would be great!

She had already gone a ways down the beach before she spotted the folly of her ways. Crap. That was a huge ship now wasn't it? And if she wasn't mistaken, it was a huge Britannian ship as well. Crap!

On this beach there was no where for her to hide and it wouldn't exactly do her any good to backtrack. Sure she had her own awesome pirate cutlass but up until now it had been little more than an accessory. Could she really use it if she had to? CRAP!

Rogue had expected them to be a little surprised at the question, but she sure didn’t expect Haruhi to freakin run off like that. Rogue immediately ran after her figuring Kyon would also have the sense to follow.

As she ran Rogue noticed the Britannian ship pulled up on the shore and Haruhi right in front of it. Shit. She continued looking around and was relieved to find no military personnel anywhere nearby, she just hoped no one came out of the ship anytime soon.

As she caught up to Haruhi she stopped in front of her and made eye contact. Rogue was about to put a hand on the girl’s shoulder as she seemed a little worried, but quickly decided against it.

“Haruhi, right? Listen I don’t care how mad you get I don’t want you running off like that again ok? The captain’s orders were to stay together an that’s what we’re going to do. An I didn’t mean to offend you with my question, ya’ll just seemed close and I was wonderin.”

Dammit. They were running off without him. Kyon took another sigh and picked up the pace behind Rogue. Kyon only stopped as the large Britannian airship came into view.

Stopping dead in his tracks and nearly dropping his notepad that had once again come out, Kyon gaped.

"Guys!? I think we should leave."

"We're not that close," Haruhi pouted, but her posture had slackened somewhat. As much as she hated to admit it, Rogue was probably right. Haruhi didn't even want to think about what would happen if there had been crew from that ship when she came running into the area. There might even be some around now, lurking somewhere. Either way, she bit back any snide remarks she might have made to Rogue. Rogue was her superior after all.

"But this is the only way to get through this damn wall!" she countered to Kyon's statement, "Sure it's Britannia, but we can't turn back now!"
