Hi. I was thinking of possibly purchasing the Sims 2 - Freetime and Seasons. But the only versions i've seen online have CD-ROM Software listed in the lower left side. While all my expansion packs which are - Double Deluxe, Apartment Life, and all 3 collection sets (University/OFB/Pets) have DVD-ROM Software written on them instead. So my question ( Read more... )

No, they are different things.

All versions of the game ar compatible with versions of Windows even as old as XP, as long as you have a DVD drive for the DVD versions.

CDs and DVD are the same thing, except DVDs have more storage. It literally has nothing to do with how everything will interact.

There is no problem. CD and DVD are not interchangeable terms, and TS2 is completely compatible with all Windows versions as old as XP.

As long as your computer has a DVD drive you can play a CD or a DVD. Yours does, as you say the products you already have say DVD-Rom on them. A CD drive will not play a DVD.

Some of the older Sims 2 expansions were only released in one format or the other, depending on location.

Any of the Sims 2 games should run on Windows XP or higher. Just remember to back up your stuff before you install. (basically make a copy of your neighborhood and downloads folder and store them somewhere else.)

If you have a DVD drive, you can use CDs as well (and if you had a blu-ray player, you'd be able to use CDs and DVDs in that -- disc drives are backwards compatible), and I've had no problems on my games having mix-and-match CDs and DVDs (Uni-OFB are on CD for me, everything else on DVD).

I'm also running Windows 7, and I was able to install the games on CD fine -- if there are issues, if you right-click on the .exe and select properties, there's a tab called compatibility where you can choose to try running the game in compatibility mode for previous OSes (I seem to recall being advised to choose XP service pack 3 when I was having issues with Any Game Installer).

Ditto. I bought all EPs and SPs as they came out so I have a mix of CDs and DVDs. Heck, my base game came on 4 CDs! I've had no problems running any of them on my Win7 machine.
