When Mac had told Dick she was pregnant for the first time, he'd had reservations about a kid.
After all, even with all of the complications that could befall this one, like they did the last, there was still the chance that this one might actually be born. Healthy.
Then he'd be a father, which would be a whole adventure upon itself. Seeing as how any kid that was half him would undoubtedly be an unbearable brat, and any kid that was half hers would be really smart.
The kid would be able to take over the world minutes after coming into the world. And, while it would make Dick awfully proud, he still had reservations about it.
But, it wasn't like they could go back in time and stop it from happening.
So, they had their first kid. A bright, healthy girl that Mac named Aviva (she told Dick it was a pal-and-something so that Aviva would be able to show off a name that spelled the same forwards and backwards). She had curly brown hair and bright blue eyes and rosy cheeks.
But just like Dick predicted way back in the first trimester of Mac's first pregnancy, they got a call on her first day of kindergarten asking if they could come in for a parent-teacher conference.
Dick took the day off work and drove over to the expensive private school they'd enrolled their little monster in. Pulling his BMW into a parent-specified parking spot, he noticed a familiar red Benz a few cars over.
He shook his head and continued into the building, eventually spotting Logan Echolls sitting in a chair close to the door.
Dick grinned as he opened the door.
"Schools make you nervous, too, bro?"
Logan grinned back.
"Only the ones without sexy schoolmarms, right?" He slapped Dick's outreached hand. "What are you in for?"
"My kid," Dick said, sitting in the seat next to his friend's. "Daughter. You remember Aviva?"
"How could I forget?" Logan rolled his eyes. "Boy can that kid scream."
Back in the early days of Dick's parenthood, Logan often came over with his own tyke when Dick was watching Aviva. Veronica and Mac would leave to do something girly, like go shopping or learn how to handle firearms.
"So you enrolled Jace here?" Dick asked.
"It was Veronica's idea. She wants private school all the way through," Logan made a cutting motion with his hand. "I don't see why. We went to public school - we're just fine."
"Word up," Dick agreed. "Where is she, by the way?"
"Well, she's been gone for ten minutes," Logan checked his watch. "So either she left me for a ruggishly handsome biology teacher or her foot kicked up a mystery on her way back from getting coffee. What about Mac?"
"She's probably trying to fit the belly behind the steering wheel," Dick told him.
"What, like she got fat?" Logan inquired. Dick shook his head.
"Just pregnant."
"Congratulations. How many months?"
"Uhhh..." Dick thought for a moment, then counted on his fingers. "Seven," he nodded. "Seven and some change."
"Girl or boy?"
"Boy," Dick said proudly. "His name's gonna be Dick Jr. the Second."
Logan raised an eyebrow. "Does Mac know that?"
"No." Dick shook his head as the bell rang on the door, signaling the entrance of at least one of the wives.
"Dick?" And indeed, it was his. "Logan?" she asked in a more perplexed voice. "Is Veronica here?"
"Mac!" Veronica's voice came from the end of the hallway. "Oh my god, he knocked you up again!"
Mac scoffed. "Uh, yeah, I noticed." She gestured to her stomach. "But look at you! Look at your hair!" Veronica shrugged, handing a Starbucks cup to Logan. "Well, working at an actual office demanded a haircut, you know?"
"That's right, you're working at Quantico, right?"
"Hey!" Dick got up when the secretary entered the room. "Can anyone actually let us know why we're here?"
The secretary frowned.
"You're the parents of..."
"Casablancas," Dick pointed to himself and Mac. "Echolls," he pointed to Logan and Veronica. The secretary frowned.
"Ohh, right. Principal Meyers left instructions that you should be led into her office immediately."
"Both sets?" Mac raised an eyebrow. The secretary nodded and pointed to the door.
"Principal's office on the first day," Dick smirked at Logan. "Like father like son, huh?"
"Please, like mother like son," Logan corrected. "I was an angel in school."

"Mommy, where are we going after this?" Aviva asked as she skipped out of the institution of lower learning.
"You're going to your room," Mac told her. "Forever." Aviva pouted, then skipped over to Dick.
"Daddy, where are we going after this?"
"We're going to get ice cream!" Dick said, bending down to lift her up and place her on his shoulders.
"Yessss!"
"Dick, you're going to reward her?" Mac frowned. "For what she did?" Veronica snorted.
"She was provoked," Dick defended. "She was just trying to stand up for her Crayolas and I think that's a trait I want to train in our daughter," he said.
"Can I get ice cream?" Jace asked Logan quietly.
"After you destroyed the classroom like that? And... did that thing with those cats?" Logan exclaimed. He sighed. "Sure, why not? Just don't tell your mom or anything."
"Thanks, dad."
"I heard that, Logan!"
"And I'm going to get strawberry, and chocolate and vanilla and pistachio and vanilla and strawberry and chocolate and a banana and then I'm going to put chocolate on it and lots of chocolate and I'm going to eat it all up and then can we go home and play Monopoly? I wanna play Monopoly, please, daddy, please? I wanna play Monopoly..."
"Monopoly it is," Dick said, lifting Aviva off of his shoulders and placing her on the hood of his car so he could open the door.
"That's dangerous, Dick!" Mac chastised gently.
"She's got skid-proofs on!" Dick gestured to Aviva's shoes. "Are you coming to get ice cream with us?"
"I've got work," Mac said sadly. "But I'll see you at home, all right?"
"Sounds like a plan," Dick grinned, leaning in to kiss her.
"Oh, ew, they're kissing!" Logan shouted from the driver's seat of his red Mercedes-Benz.
"Mommy and Daddy looooooove to kiss!" Aviva declared.
"Shut up, Aviva," Mac mumbled before pecking Dick on the lips again. "I love you. Bye."
"Bye," Dick whispered as Mac left to her own mid-sized sedan. He smiled as she struggled to get the seat adjusted again, then held his arms out to get Aviva off the roof of his car.
"Come on, Nano. We're going to get you the biggest ice cream ever."
