I cried hard when I realized where this was going. You captured all of the pain of having to put a beloved pet down because the pet is in pain and you love them. I had my dog for fifteen years before her back legs went and I had to make that decision. This was just so very sadly wonderful.

You know that I love everything you write, but right now I can't leave a proper comment cause I have to coax my cat out from under the bed for a hug. He's like Harold, he hates hugs, too.

I love what a wonderful friend Chris is to Zach in this fic. Aside from the sexytiems, I love of attentive he was to Zach and being there for him. The scene where he finds Noah just tore me apart, and the one where Zach says goodbye to Noah at the hospital, too.
He teared up a little when he found a Christmas penguin squeaky toy still in its wrapping in the closet, pictured Zach buying it months ahead of time and actually saving it until the appropriate holiday, as if Noah could tell the difference. *sniffles*

“Noah,” Chris said, “thank you for being Zach’s best friend. No man or dog can ever take your place ( ... )

Still. This.
"Zach?”
“Yeah?”
“I like hugs.”
He could feel Zach’s smile, then soft lips moving against his skin as Zach murmured, “How do you feel about bandanas?”
= EVERY KIND OF ADORABLE. So you're forgiven. Just this once.
