Blood and beaches and castles and cream

Gosh! I biked over to the Nova area where all the big superstores are, and came rolling down the slope to the underpass under the road. Too fast to brake -- and ended up in a vast puddle under the road bridge that was at least 20-25 cm deep and many metres long. Enough to get my shoes soaked even though I tried to carry on pedalling through. Some ( Read more... )

I had to get a blood vessel in my nose cauterised many years ago. The worst part was when the anaesthetic let off as it was very ticklish and I was told not to sneeze or scratch my nose. After that I've only had one or two nosebleeds, so fingers crossed I won't have to do it again.

Let me know how your ice cream experiments goes!

I did an intestinal X-ray a few years back, where they put the contrast fluid tube through my nose and down my throat, to avoid too much gagging I suppose. They did anaesthetise it beforehand, but of course it wore off while the tube was still in my nose. It hurt like hell.

The stupid thing is that last time she had one of those massive continuous nosebleeds, the doctors told her that she had to come in while she was still bleeding so that they could see which vessel it was. Well, now we did come in while she was still bleeding, but then we had to wait for two hours, and by the time we were admitted to a doctor it hadn't been bleeding for almost the whole two hours.

Though I guess that if she had been cascade bleeding all that time they may have let her jump the queue...

Yesterday I made licorice&lemon ice-cream, with powdered licorice extract (for candy-making, but it works for tea and flavouring too) and essential lemon oil. I made it with whipped cream, whisked egg yolks and some Russian yoghurt (17%). The licorice tastes fairly sweet without sugar, which is why I thought to try it. It turned out pretty OK, except that I've never been a fan of licorice ice-cream... And tonight I just made a more "classic" vanilla ice-cream (the kind where you make a custard first), but with no added sugar except the ½ tsp vanilla sugar that I used. (I did add vanilla extract and vanilla powder too.) It was very nice, if you don't mind the lack of sweetness. :)
