Hugos

Three of my favourites got Hugo awards this time: Neil Gaiman got "Best Novel" for The Graveyard Book, Girl Genius won "Best Graphic Story" and "Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form" went to Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.

It's always nice when you recognize at least a few of the award winners, and even better when it's stuff you really like!

books, dr. horrible, telly, neil gaiman

Yes, I was also pleased to see some of the winners, and was thinking I should write about it in my LJ, just in case you and some others hadn't noticed.

Most of the nominees in the short-story category are rather good too. EscapePod ran all of them, so I've listened to them (which may bias my perception a bit: some stories are better suited for that medium than others). I was happy to see that Ted Chiang's "Exhalation" won, as that was my favourite of the five.

I have Escape Pod on subscription, but I haven't listened to it all year...

Understandable. I subscribe to a whole bunch of various podcasts, and some of them tend to ... well, pile up. I have a few episodes' worth of back log for EscapePod and PodCastle, and huge back log for Variant Frequencies. Some non-fiction podcasts I can listen to while I work (depending on what I'm doing), but fiction is out of the question. So unless I want to listen to the fiction podcasts while cycling to work or doing my exercises, they collect virtual dust.
