At the beginning of summer, I bought a little fold-down table for my balcony, the kind you hang over the balcony rail. It's wooden and looks really nice, but the metal hooks that go over the rail are far too wide, which made the table hang crookedly. I went down into my cellar and found a piece of board that I could put between the rail and the ( Read more... )

And here I am drowning in planks... If you walk past a building site, or someone who is doing some decorating/carpentry, ask for leftover pieces.

After digging a bit I did find another plank in my cellar that might work. It's a bit too long, though, but at least that's better than too short. And now I wish I'd bought that Japanese handsaw I saw at the fair on Thursday... ^^

ETA: Did you have time to check out Greger Sy in Malmö, by the way? Did they have any Bernina accessories? Thinking of going there myself soon.

Greger Sy were closed for summer holidays, but I could see they had lots of sewing machines, some of which were Berninas.

Ah, too bad. Well, I'll get in touch with the other guy who sold me the machine, and ask what he'll charge for the presser foot. If it's cheaper than ordering from Jaycott's I'll get the stuff I need from him. Let me know if you want me to get something for you too.

I wish there was some cheap way for you to get to Finland so we could hang out. <3 And likewise, would love to see you in Lund. *sigh*

That depende entirely on the shop you choose to buy from. Fx one here in town have a whole corner filled with "leftovers" where you can browse if you need shorter boards.

( They also cut for you so they get loads of leftovers).

AND they sell the leftovers somewhat cheaper.

I remember as a child, our family used to make pilgrimages to the local sawmill to buy "kappved" in sacks, for the oven at our mountain cabin.

Now, I think I have become allergic to sawdust.
