Nooo, King Fahd of Saudi Arabia can't die! It's just not going to be the same without him...

I'm currently reading Dune and it suddenly hits me who Baron Vladimir Harkonnen was probably modeled on...

(Ron Mael is of course playing suitably sombre music there in my icon, to soothe the pain of all of us...)

Man, but it's ok, because I am currently reading Children of Dune (the third book), and Baron Vladimir Harkonnen has effectively come back to life. SPOILER! Oh.
So obv King Fahd will be alright in the end! etc

The second book is a big pile of rub, the third one is an improvement so far but obv not as good as the first. Apparently if you make it to like the fifth sequel, that one was Nebula-award winning quality again, or whatever.
