Chapter 12: Wait for me
Darkness was everywhere. He could almost hear the thick silence surrounding him, swallowed him and didn’t let him breath. It was getting colder and colder, until he felt his limbs numbed and his lips froze, his eyes were blurred with tears. His fear once again found it way to creep into his body, controlling his mind. He looked up and all he could see was his own face, with that familiar threaten smile and darkened eyes. He opened his mouth to scream, but no sound came out, as if something had blocked his throat and he couldn’t even breath. He tried to move his legs, tried to run away, as far as possible, but his legs betraying him. He couldn’t move an inch. He found himself stumbled down onto the hard ground, the darkness wavered when a sight of a hand reached out for him. It was scarily familiar, it was just as he remembered from those days, when he was imprisoned and was treated as a slave. He tried to move away, he struggled desperately to run, to not let that hand catch him. But he failed, as once again he felt those cold fingers laying on him, once again groping around to feel his skin. He screamed, but no sound came out, his ears were deaf, his eyes became blind. Everything turned off in front of him, but deep inside, a pain dwelling and spreading, until it was unbearable and he gasped for air when the pain beat him to unconsciousness.
Nino jolted up with tears and sweat on his face, and he found himself staring straightly at a worried Ohno. Ohno’s hand was on Nino’s face, as if he had been trying to wake Nino up. Nino looked at Ohno’s gentle face and knew it was just a nightmare again, he cried. His arms sneaked around Ohno’s shoulder as he pulled him down on top of him, hugged him tightly in an awkward position, but none of them cared. He needed Ohno right now. He needed Ohno just as much as he needed air, because he didn’t know what he was living for except for Ohno.
“Nino, it’s okay now…” Ohno whispered as Nino was still holding him tightly, pressing their body against each other. Ohno fought the urge to kiss Nino on his lips, instead he put simple kisses on Nino’s face, tried to calm down the man under him.
“Ohchan…” Nino cried. The pain was just as clear as ever “Ohchan…”
“I’m here,” Ohno murmured “I’m here…”
“What if he would come back? What if he wouldn’t give up on me?” Nino asked, desperated.
“I won’t let him do that.” Ohno said assuringly. “I will never let you go.”
“Promise?” Nino hold his shirt pleadingly “Promise me?”
“I promise.” Ohno would never want to see the fear back on Nino’s face again.
And with Ohno’s surprise, Nino pulled him down, searching for Ohno’s lips and rested his own on his. Ohno couldn’t think of anything else at that moment than kissing Nino back. Nino was still scared, Ohno could sense it by the way his lips tremble slightly, but Nino didn’t stop. Ohno’s hand came to Nino’s face as he traced the jawline of the man he loved with ultimate caressness. He kept it slow, just breathing Nino’s scent in and caring his lips until Nino’s nerve slowly faded away.. His tongue firstly met Nino’s in a clumsy way, but it became better with each movement, until Ohno found it was incredible kissing Nino like this and it was hard to part away even when their brain was screaming for air.
When finally Nino pulled back, Ohno put light kissed all over his face, tried to convey his feelings to the younger man, tried to assure Nino that he loved him, that he would do anything to protect him, that he would be there for him for the rest of his life. His hand came to Nino’s shirt as he pulled it slightly, rather hesitantly. He was still not sure that Nino was okay with this, since the wound in his heart was too deep to endure more of these things.
But to Ohno’s relief, Nino didn’t push away. His breath hitched when Ohno’s hand met his skin, and he let out a small whimper when Ohno bit his earlobes gently. Ohno caressed Nino’s bare chest, his hand touching every scars of Nino, each kept remind himself how much Nino had endured, and his love for Nino was just growing bigger until it suffocated him in an unbearable way.
Just when Ohno’s hand trail down and reached his belt, Nino pulled away.
“I’m sorry, Ohchan…” Nino breathed heavily, he was still closing his eyes, but seemed like he was scared again, with a frown ceased his brow “I… I just can’t do this…”
Ohno stopped and just nodded in understanding. He put a slight kiss on Nino’s lips in oder to brush away that worry.
“It’s okay…”
“Not now, you know…” Nino whispered “Just… give me some time…”
“I’ll wait,” Ohno smiled as he hugged Nino again “I’ll wait until you’re ready.”
And Nino smiled, the first genuine smile Ohno had seen in the last few days. And with that smile, Ohno knew he could wait forever, just to be with Nino at the end of the way. He could go everywhere, fight against anyone, just to be with Nino at the very ending. He rolled off Nino, still careful not hurt the younger man and hugged him tightly, until their breath evened again and they both fall asleep.
This time, the nightmare didn’t appear again, but it was Ohno’s gentle face that was smiling at Nino and shining in his dream.
----------------------------------
It was nearly a week after that accident. The first few days, Nino took time off from work since he didn’t want to face that Ninomiya, not yet. Jun didn’t complain at all, though he looked a little sad that now he was used to Nino’s presence around, doing things and talking to him. Now staying alone in this shop was becoming boring everyday.
So when Nino came back three days later, Jun’s eyes brightened as he saw the younger man’s sight from afar. He was about to ask him if he was okay, but looking at Nino’s bright eyes were more than a confirmation. When Nino entered, Jun approached him with a smile on his face.
“Feeling better now?”
“Hai,” Nino bowed at Jun, and with that, they came back to their usual routine, with Nino helping around and Jun doing the work. Inside the shop, it was suddenly cosier.
They didn’t talk much about that. It was obvious that Jun still didn’t really understand what Nino was going through, and Nino felt like he owned him an explanation. But Nino still couldn’t talk about it. Though after he had opened his heart to Ohno, he felt more optimistic about his future. That Ninomiya didn’t show up again - it was a good sign too, though Nino had no idea why. Ninomiya wasn’t kind of a person that would easily give up, especially when one of his things was stolen away. This brought worry to Nino’s heart sometimes, but he couldn’t do more about this than believing that Ohno was always there for him no matter what happened. They could fight together.
Jun eyed Nino from the corner of his eyes, and witnessing the distant look on Nino’s face worried him. He wanted to ask, but it seemed like Nino wasn’t ready to talk about it. Ohno had asked him to pretend nothing had happened; they would tell him someday. It made him somehow feel lonely, like he was just an outsider, not be able to do anything nor know anything.
Thus to be honest, he was jealous of Nino. Nino was getting closer to Ohno each day, and they living together just made it less chance for him to win Ohno over. But he sighed - looking at Nino last week, he could never bring himself to really envy Nino. The other man seemed to have enough revulsion in his life. If Ohno could help Nino, then Jun would take a step back.
When it was the busiest time, with customers full the shop, the telephone rang. Jun looked at Nino - he was in the middle of serving a table of four people, so Jun put down the dishes and came to answer the phone.
“Matsumoto-san?” A man’s voice answered him, and Jun frowned slightly. He knew this man.
“Hai?”
“Do you know where Ohno-kun is? He hasn’t showed up yet, and it’s already late for work!”
It was Ohno’s boss from the convenient shop. Jun’s frown deepened as he turned and called Nino. It was strange, if Nino was here, then Ohno most likely had come to work, too.
“He left together with me,” Nino answered worriedly, as he hurriedly strode to the counter. “He must’ve been there by now.”
“They say he hasn’t been there yet.” Jun looked at Nino, and they could feel each other’s fear clearly. Nino’s face turned pale at the news, and he immediately rushed out of the shop without saying anything. Jun couldn’t chase after him, he had a lot to take care of in the shop. Jun hang up the phone in confusion, as he tried to dial Ohno’s number. But no one answered him. He listened to the ringing, wishing for Ohno to just pick it up and saying that he was alright.
But Ohno never did.
